Beside my family I love dogs and cats. I want to find out everything about my sons illnesses and about help for him. I also like to read and to listen music if I have some me time.
  1. As I am German I say Aspergers with a G. Zemanski is right and all the others who said so. But then again so many words which we also have in the German language get different pronounced in English.... But Asperger was Austrian and they speak German...so I would say so.... Love, SylvXXXX Interesting discussion though....
  2. Nick who now is dx Asperger Syndrom came home from school yesterday telling me he went to toilet in school. Nick soils in his pants every day he "cant " go to the toilet he says as he is frighten and the toilets in school are filthy. He was in agony yesterday with tummy ache and as we have trained him to go to toilet then he did in school and he had a poo. I am so pleased with him and very happy. School of course didnt let us know he was in pain even they put him to the nurse for a while, which I will investigate and of course question. I just have enough with them not telling us if anything is wrong with our son. Thank you for listening, SylvXXX

Oh Clare, what a nightmare...all of you have said it.."He could have been anyone". I probably would call the people responsible and tell them "off" for it. Hope your son is better now and I also second what was said before, dont feel bad, I think similar things happned to all of us.... <'> <'> <'> SylvXXX

    very sad today,

Lorraine I am ever so sorry to hear about Rosie. RIP little Rosie. And your son is actually not wrong...she is disappeared to "Rainbow Bridge" there where our beloved pets go to, when they pass away. She must have been a very strong doggy keeping up so long with cancer. Lots of <'> for all of you, SylvXXX
  5. Oh Carole that really was funny to your Mum's expense. Love, SylvXXX

    AS or ASD

My son is dx with Asperger Syndrom, but didnt talk till he was 3 years old and still has problems with speaking yet he is talking in 3 languages???? At the NAS website was written that: Asperger syndrome is a form of autism, a condition that affects the way a person communicates and relates to others. A number of traits of autism are common to Asperger syndrome including: difficulty in communicating difficulty in social relationships a lack of imagination and creative play And that: Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects the way a person communicates and relates to people around them. Children and adults with autism have difficulties with everyday social interaction. Their ability to develop friendships is generally limited as is their capacity to understand other people's emotional expression. People with autism can often have accompanying learning disabilities but everyone with the condition shares a difficulty in making sense of the world. There is also a condition called Asperger syndrome, which is a form of autism used to describe people who are usually at the higher functioning end of the autistic spectrum. I hope that made sense...it made it to me....anyhow... <'> , SylvXXX
  7. That is a brilliant thread..... My story is...that we had parents evening recently and were told that Nick who now is dx with Aspergers has reached top marks in reading already....what a amazing result...even for a foreigner who's still learning English. The thread itself was making me having tears....and let me think. Love, SylvXXX
  8. My son soils. He wears pull ups when he is home and during nights. He is 9 years old. It is just a pain in school as the other kids will tease him when he wears pull ups so we use normal underpants there. We see a specialist for this on a regulary basis and he is on meds because he is constantly constipated. SylvXXX

    eating

Nick always was fussy. He smells food also before he eats it. Since a very young age he eats meatballs....he likes crossaints and those drink yogurts, none with bits in it. He used to drink fizz and eat chocolate rolls or chocolate spread sandwiches, but he soils still and we just changed his diet last year. So he gets chocolate as a treat at the weekends and very rarly (i.e visit by McDonald, KFC etc) fizz. He wont touch any kind of vegetables neither raw nor cooked. We try to encourage him though. He doesnt like meat that much. What he could eat is Pasta/Bolognese and Pasta with white sauce and salmon in it...I know that sounds strange but that are his favourite. He just is very sensitive to the consistence of the food. SylvXXX
  10. My son has a dual dx as well ADD/Aspergers Syndrom. He was on Ritalin before and now is on Concerta since las August, which helps him no end. I can understand your hesitation to put him on medication but believe me it is worth a trial. It helped here no end. My son is now 9 and was dx ADD when he was 6 and since then was on medication. Firstly on off Ritalin as I was feeling so guilty but when he said to me that he likes the "new" Nick more then the "old" one it proved the medication was important. Big <'> to you and good luck for your decision, SylvXXX

    Nick's dx

I am speechless....after "abandon" you all for so long I've get all this lovely supporting messages from you.... I dont know how I feel. My husband takes it much easier, but then he is Nicks stepdad and has a different bond to him then I have, I guess. I dont want to say he loves him less, he doesnt, he is a very good Dad and we heard last night that we are "very good parent" as the doctors said. I mean, all we try to achieve is to raise Nick the best way we can, that he has a good start in life, as the most of the parents want for their children. I was kind of chuffed what they told us about Nick....above average intelligent...very sensitive (ok I knew that but Hubby had to hear that)....that he is unique (also that was not new..) It is now confirmed and I will do the research work for it now more direct if that makes sense. I also have applied for another job, less stressful one and maybe I have a chance with that. It will help us all in the long run. I also will come here now more often as I need information I can get here as you all are so much more experienced then I am. Thank you again for listening and a big <'> for being there for me, Love, SylvXXX

    Nick's dx

Thank you all ever so much <'> You describe exactly how I feel. I knew there was more than only ADD what Nick was suffering from as he was different from birth. Now knowing it it makes me feel very sad...but relieved at the same time??? I am glad I can come here...there are so many answers to my questions now...his soiling...was explained to me today...he feels different...or he doesnt feel at all.... Him being so very much intelligent but so different for others. The teacher in his school said, she has no problems, behaviour wise at the moment... He is not a bad boy...I so much understand now better, although I am very emotional at the same time. Thank you all for your post, that helps so much, SylvXXX
  13. I dont know if I am happy or sad....I had tears when they told us that Nick has Aspergers.... I am grateful though we know for sure now. Alarming was that Nick obviously told the Dr he still gets bullied and we didnt know all about and that he suffers from it....which makes me feel awful. Anyway...we get help now and will go to school and get them to help too..... I probably now will read a little more about Aspergers. The Dr's said that we are very good parents...and that Nick is very intelligent (of course that we knew already...). Sorry I dont want to go on...just wanted to share...and say thank you for all support in the past!!!! Love, SylvXXX
  14. They sent us the letter yesterday and we will be in hospital 3 hours. never mind though.... I have mixed feelings of course...it is getting serious..what will they find out...aspergers...ASD??? Just to let you know. Thanks for listening, SylvXXX
  15. Thank you Tylers-mum.....I did the test and Nick scored 169???? We still are awaiting our appointment but it cant be longer...... Love, SylvXXX
