  1. We started the statementing process with the school behind us (or so we thought!) we got turned down as he was in year 1 and decided to appeal. The head called us in and said she was no longer supporting our appeal as he was making good progress (which we did agree with at the time) so we withdrew. The head is now withdrawing support left right and centre and J is beginning to struggle! See what year 2 brings!
  2. I contacted eye q for a sample of the eye q smooth. 2 arrived in the post today. It's something they obviously do regularly as the paperwork that came with it was telling you how to get a discount if you buy from them direct. Got that link further up the post. Might be worth a try before spending a fortune on it
  3. Hi I'm also from kent and my mum lives in Fareham Hants(we go there a lot!) would like to get together with any other Kent people for coffee - if poss? Anyone interested?
  4. Didn't see this post until I had e-mailed legoland. Never mind! We are going to try with the DLA letter and also a dx letter. On their website they do say they've changed the fast pass so I don't know if that will disclude (is there such a word?) children with ASD. I agree it does look a bit off letting a "Normal" looking child (sorry don't want to offend) on without queuing. No-one would think twice if child is in a wheelchair, but I think its better for everyone if queuing is to a minimum - including those you would be queuing with. AS meltdown not a pretty sight in small enclosed queuing space Can become very frightening for other children as well. We hope to go again in September so fingers crossed we still get fast pass - definately won't wait for 1-2 hours in a queue!
  5. Loved underpants guy. Have you seen the childrens books Captain Underpants? My little one loves them as the hero?? is the school principal who has been hypnotised to think he's captain underpants saviour of the.... I agree about the dog thing - ours is so good with J he's been with us since he was a pup and they've grown to tolerate each other so well Hope the noises don't continue and you get a good nights sleep tonight
  6. Thanks for the info on eye q smooth. Just contacted them as we have a real problem with citrus and anyother fruit flavour (but he likes yoghurt) and they have said they will send me a sample. If he likes it it's worth the extra as we have seen a difference in behaviour with it (and without it ) Just wish it could be got on prescription from the doctor but they won't prescribe it!
  7. Thank you - we were aware of problems in nursery, the nursery were all for it and called in the SENCO of the school he was going to go to. She said nothing was a problem and we have been fighting since. I find it hard that medically he has a diagnosis and the medical profession are all behind us, but education seem to sit on their behinds. Going into a new class in September with a new teacher who's son is AS so hope there will be some support. Head very good at paying lip service to anyone who comes in e.g Ed Psych, Comm nurse etc. making all the right noises and then not actually doing anything. Well we shall see. Thanks for the links will have a look at them.
  8. Can I ask a personal question? I hope it's not going to offend anyone. Do all the children here have some form of Educational Statement? We have a worse than useless IEP and got turned down for a statement. When we appealed the school persuaded us to drop it as he was making good progress. This is now not the case and support is being withdrawn every year as they feel he is making good progress! Any advice or thoughts?
  9. We tried it when J was 18 mths. Did the right thing tried it at home to check for the opposite side effect. He was fine. Did it on a 7 hour night time flight - he climbed the walls. What a nightmare - we had to wait until it wore off It is also the active ingredient in Medised the cold medicine. However that one works - go figure
  10. Have a good holiday - hope the weather is kind to you. We are going to bottom of Belgium next week - not the avid BB fan you are, but still going to miss the TV. Especially J with his cartoons!
  11. Glad we're not alone in the sitting down loo thing. At school when J first started him and his friend were both desperate to go (only 1 loo) so J sat down and his friend stood up and they weed together. Not something we've encouraged But at least no-one had a little accident
  12. We had someone come into our school about groups in gravesend and medway. There is an organisation that uses peer group mentors to support pupils at out of school clubs and things. I am on school hols at the moment but if its any use pm me and I'll get you the details when I go back in September. There are limited places, but maybe it would be of help to you
  13. Thanks for that Lisa I have to say I was a bit worried about it being a 'scam' idea. Sometimes it is easier if a child has a visible disability. People are more accepting of this. The amount of times I have had to deal with a meltdown with looks from people over my 'naughty' child and obvious bad parenting skills
  14. Now I know this is very strange. I've been reading through the foods and did anyone else notice the yorkshire pudding connection? My son loves toad in the hole and yorkshire pudding. He'd live on this if he could. The one I find hard is the complete fear of any fruit in any form including juice. I have actually had him climbing walls to get away from a peeled grape! It is hard with the liking of food, you think you've cracked it and suddenly they won't touch it Never mind - I suppose its true when they say a child won't intentionally starve themselves
  15. Not looking to get carers allowance as I don't think I provide the level of care that some of you seem to do, just wondered about getting the support when out with him. I could take him to more places if I could avoid queues and meltdowns and maybe save a bit of money to take him to some of the more expensive things. Obsession with transport
