  1. Carrie I'm sure IPSEA are doing roadshows in Scotland just now regarding the Act and what your child is entitled to and there are free consultations available regarding school issues. Dates for all around the country. I got a leaflet through because I contacted them before but I no longer have it, although I am attending the seminar in Glasgow on 8 June. I'm glad you have the dx now, I spoke to a psychologist in my university who specialises in ASDs and she told me that we as parents need to push, push, push. Back to the old saying he who shouts loudest. I've got my ADOS appointment for wee one on 17th May, they will see ds on 24th and I will know results of it by mid June. Did you only have a few appointments as well? Neda
  2. I was putting out my wee one's rice krispies which were unfortunately done. I said "oh no, the rice krispies have run out" he replies, "quick mum we need to go catch them", he proceeds to the front door to peer through the letter box so he could see where they were going. Its difficult to explain it to them when your laughing.
  3. jlo Sorry I can't offer you any advice but you are coping with so much. Please feel welcome to post here, just talking about it and getting it out can help a little, bottling it up makes it seem so much worse. <'> <'> <'> I really hope you get the advice you need.
  4. Hi Caroline, don't know specifics about Edinburgh as I'm from Glasgow but I can let you know how things are for my boy. My wee boy is 4 as well and I've just had assessment appointment. He hasn't been diagnosed yet but I deferred him from school this year and he has been accepted at a pre-school assessment and development unit, they will work with him on his communication difficulties as well as his emotional, social and behavioural problems and when it comes to him transferring onto school next year, they will be involved in this as well to ensure school is aware of his difficulties and how to get the best from him. This will run in tandem with his other nursery placement as well. As result of psychologist report he now has IEP set up in nursery and has visual aids as well as support from LSA. I have also been working with a behaviour management social worker who has been fantastic. It has taken us 2 months to get to a stage where I could implement something that he understood the concept of it. He now gets grounded for a few minutes wherever we are, if he is outside he gets brought in, if we are in he is grounded to the couch or his room and if we are out shopping etc he gets held next to me for a few minutes, and I can say this is the first time I feel that it is positive. Maybe it depends on your local authority and the types of services you are looking for, but even if he doesn't get an ASD diagnosis, he will obviously still need some sort of support. Maybe you should look at what is available in your area, speak to EP and nursery, as everything I've got for ds has came through them. Sorry I can't help more.
  5. Got letter from ADOS team, was referred there about 4-5 weeks ago. They will see me for first appointment for history in May, they will then see son and he will be videod, then I'll have a meeting before end of June to get results of assessment and diagnosis if necessary. Spoke to psychologist in university who specialises in ASD and she says she can't believe that this is happening so quickly for me as she knows people within another authority who are on a 2-year waiting list, so I do know I'm probably quite fortunate that I don't need to wait so long. He was first referred to EP in October 05 and he's already been fully assessed by him but he doesn't think he is on spectrum, he's been assessed by SALT as well and they referred him on. Is this why they only need to see him once before making a diagnosis. I would have thought it would take more than that.
  6. Phas well done. I'm sure it feels strange not having anything to do regarding study for a while. I've got my 1st year nursing exams in 2 weeks so I'll bypass the drinks for now to keep a clear head. Can't wait for the feeling of being able to let my hair down and get drunk. Great party
  7. neda

    LSA

This is happening in Scotland too, so much be national.
  11. Me too, totally understand it. A says it and repeats it until he gets an answer and gets louder and louder until he gets the answer, eventually lashing out or screaming if he doesn't. Must admit I also tend to answer him just to prevent the behaviour.
  12. A has had hearing tests as well, 3 in the past 18 months all have shown his hearing is fine.
  13. I told A this morning to get off the road because cars were on the road. He told me he was going to jump in front of a car and get broken. I have terrible problems with him having no sense of danger and always trying to run off, particularly into the road, this is the last thing I want to hear as it seems like he's not scared of it.
  14. Shona, sorry to hear things are so bad for you. Sending you lots of these <'> <'> <'>. I'm sure someone whose been here before will be along with some advice for you. Take care
  15. Carol, she never asked, I just told her there was still very obvious problems as this is happening virtually every day, but I do not want him to be forced to take part, particularly because when he was in another part of the nursery he was labelled a 'bad boy' by the other kids, because they seen his disruptive behaviour when things were too much for him. I'm seeing her again on Tuesday and I'm telling her that I don't want her to tell the nursery to keep him in the room as it will be too much for him, he will totally flip when they start singing the songs and it won't benefit anyone. I'm noticing some of his sensory issues are becoming more apparent so I'll be highlighting this to nursery. Thanks for your thoughts, sometimes I just need someone else to confirm what I am thinking.
