  1. We went to the consultant yesterday and it's (another) new one. However she was brilliant, made a point of engaging with Eli, and as soon as I asked about melatonin she agreed although she doesn't like to prescribe it to children under 11. She had her first tablet last night , was asleep by 9:20!! She woke at 3:40am but was soon tucked back down with a drink and her tom and jerry dvd and slept til 10am! She is slightly more hyper today, whether that's down to the melatonin or the fact she's just had a good nights sleep i don't know!!
  2. Thanks for the welcome guys! It really does look like a good place to be for support. I kind of feel like when Eli was diagnosed we were just told and left to get on with it. As far as finding out DH was probably Aspergers, when Eli was diagnosed, I started to notice a lot of the symptoms matched DH. After our marriage reaching breaking point I took him to the doctors and the GP said yes, he thinks I'm right. I know that sounds very simplistic but it was after months of heartbreak and struggling that we got to that point. He's very typically aspergers, he struggles to understand other people's feelings, he's obsessional about cars, he doesn't read facial clues at all, he hates social gatherings and doesn't know how to react if people are angry or upset. Stress makes him anxious to the point of anger.... the list goes on!
  3. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie to the forum but thought I would post for people's personal opinions on this. My 4 yr old daughter was diagnoses about 14 months ago with an asd, probably aspergers. We're coping quite well but the thing that is literally exhausting me at the moment is lack of sleep. Elodie only seems to need 4-5 hours a night. She didn't go to sleep until 2am this morning, despite being put to bed at 10pm. Then she was up before me at 7. I would like to say that's a rare occurence but it isn't. It's one of the reasons I had to give up my job, I couldn't do it properly with the lack of sleep. I've been reading up about melatonin today and I think I'm willing to give it a go although right now I'd try just about anything. We're seeing her consultant today for her 6 month check and I will ask for it. How readily do the NHS prescribe it? How long does it take to start working? Can it be put with bedtime milk as she won't take medicines? I do understand it won't work for everyone but I really need to try something! Jen Xx
  4. Hi Everyone, I actually joined the forum several months ago but this is my first post. I really look forward to getting to know you all. My daughter Elodie is 4 years old. She was diagnosed with an ASD 14 months ago - probable aspergers. She is a very funny and delightful little girl, super affectionate, however her speech and language skills are far behind and she only understands a minimal amount of what's being said to her. She also has the typical obsessional behaviour. It's been constantly Thomas the Tank Engine since she was tiny, but she moves between others for a few months at a time. We've got a place on the NAS Earlybird Course starting in September which I hope will help, not only with Elodie but DH as well who according to our GP is definitely Aspergers too, but as he's coped quite well through life there's not a lot of point getting a diagnosis. Jen Xx
