  1. Bit of a different theme I guess, but thought I would start a topic here. Currently, my university is choosing which charity to support in the next academic year, one of the shortlisted charities is Autism NI, and I've been organising the election campaign, in order to get as many people to vote as possible. There is 8 shortlisted charities, and the 4 that get the most votes are chosen as the supported charities. I was just wondering if anyone has any previous experience of something like this, and have any advice or tips for me? I've never been great at public speaking, but I am very good at writing online blogs and pieces and explaining things to people, but in person this is a struggle for me, Also, if anyone on here attends Queen's University, fancy voting?! (Worth a try I guess)
  2. Hi. I currently run an Asperger's/Autism support group, but I've been having problems trying to raise awareness of it to others, and getting it noticed by those who it may benefit. I have a Facebook Page, Twitter Account, Wordpress site and a dedicated email address, but I feel I'm struggling to reach my target audience, and I'm not quite sure how to reach them. Does anyone have any advice, or previous experience of how to reach those people it is aimed at? It's aimed at quite a general base, basically anyone with Autism/Asperger's, or anyone affected by the condition, be that a family member, friend, colleague, fellow school pupil, etc.
  3. In all honesty, I wouldn't. I think if you would have asked me a few years ago, I would have said yes, but I think my personality and the Asperger's are intrinsically linked to each other, and if you take one away, you take the other as well. I can fully understand why someone would want the cure, and take it, but my personal view is that, while I wouldn't be in favour of one for myself, I would fully support anyone who would be in favour of a cure.
  4. Just had a brief flick through the website, it looks pretty good! Easy to navigate, loads fast and clearly laid out, will have a complete read through it later on tonight, and will post my thoughts, but first impressions are that it looks excellent!
  5. Hi everyone. I'm Ryan, I'm 19 years old, and I have Asperger's Syndrome, as well as ADHD. I'm currently studying Law and Politics and Queen's University Belfast, and I'm in my second year now. I write a blog, http://whatsitliketolivewithautism.com/ in which I write about my everyday life with Aspergers, and how it affects me and the methods I use to overcome the challenges I face from my condition. I also created a group called Holding Out A Hand, which is to help raise awareness of Autism and Asperger's Syndrome in Northern Ireland, specifically among teenagers and young adults, in the hope they will understand the condition, and be better able to help those who suffer from it. https://www.facebook.com/HoldingOutAHand Not really sure what else to say now, I'm not brilliant at introductory things really, so errr, hi everyone
