I've been signed up and lurking here for a while...it's time I made a proper introduction.
I am a male in my late fifties and not officially diagnosed, though I am absolutely certain I do have Asperger's, and have been so for over a decade. I have had difficulty getting clinical confirmation for my years of hard-won adaptation, and a cluster of previously-diagnosed co-morbids that make the ASD underneath quite hard to discern. I find this frustrating, though I reckon it doesn't change what I am. For what it's worth, I'm quite proud to be on the Spectrum. I tend to focus more on the gifts that come with ASDs than the liabilities. We're actually rather amazing folk.
My principal interest in terms of ASDs is the difficulty more mature individuals seem to have in securing diagnosis. Many of us seem to want that official validation, and I find the lack of adequate tools for identifying Asperger's in adults to be egregious.
General interests include activities engaging with the natural world, conservationism/environmentalism, mythology and folklore, travel, and global cultures.
I've been on other, larger ASD forums, but I find I prefer a less populated venue. That said, I'm hoping that this one might pick up a bit more. I see some good conversations and pleasant, intelligent people here.
