  1. I think my son's AS could be a mixture of many things. But I don't think it came from him having the MMR. Looking back on the way he was when he was smaller, and comparing my 1 year daughter with him, she seems to be that bit more advanced than he was at the same age. I think the causes could be a difficult birth, my pregnancy was wonderful but I was 11 days overdue, and had to be induced. I was pushing for well over an hour before they decided I needed help. My son was delivered by ventouse (suction) and his head was very mis-shapen and he still has a "strange" shaped head. The cord was also wrapped around his neck, although he didn't need oxygen. I also think it could be genetic, coming from my side of the family. I have a half brother that has had an awful lot of problems in his life and I'm wondering now if he could have AS. But one thing I'm learning is, to stop going over and over what could have caused it. I think I could be driven mad wondering about the cause. Unless like lisapow you are certain of the cause. My son had good Apgar scores, but he didn't crawl until he was 12 months old and he didn't walk until he was 16 months old. His speech has always been ok. But he does seem older beyond his years, which I think is a trait of AS. I'm still learning what is and isn't AS!

    Introductions!!

Hi, I?m Testy. My son is 4 1/2 and last year, we were asked by his nursery to see the nursery doc, because they said my son didn't join in with groups and his concentration wasn't very good. He has had various tests and he saw a pediatrician. At the end of all of this, it was said he had and I quote" a communication problem". Liam started school in September and he is doing really well. At a recent meeting with his teacher, she mentioned that he was Autistic; we nearly fell off ours chairs! We have never been told about him possibly being Autistic, and his teacher only mentioned it accidentally, she thought we had been told. It was his old nursery who had told his new school about our son being on the Autistic Spectrum. My son has never been diagnosed. I have since researched Autism and I believe my son has Asperger Syndrome. He displays a lot of the traits. I have noticed since he started school that his behavior has improved a lot and it's more of the social side and changes that he find hard to cope with. His teacher has told us he knocks spot off some of the other kids when it comes to learning words and letters. Since we accidentally found out about our son having Autism, we have written to the pediatrician he was under and we finally have an appointment with her in 2 weeks time. I just hope she?s ready for us! I?m pleased I have found this site; it was given to me by someone on another site. I hope I can find the time to be around quite a lot.
