DfES Guidance on Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

In recent years there has been an increase in the number of children and young people identified with autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs). The Department for Education and Skills has supported a number of initiatives which have developed guidance related to ASDs. The links below take you through to the current available guidance this will be added to when new resources become available.

Hello Nellie

Superb, thank you for that. It is great to have up to date info. I see they are bringing out a booklet on language disorders too in April. This may be useful too considering the difficulty in getting serious, frequent help for children with language difficulties if they are even suspected of having ASD, in this area at least.

Joe's gran.

This link has some very useful information. There is also a feedback form under the section 'Guidance from our autism working group'. They welcome positive comments as well as constructive criticism! There is an email address to send any examples of good practice that you might have.

The government are trying to make changes, the rise in numbers of people diagnosed and the cost to the government mean they have good reasons to get this right, we need to make sure they do.

Nellie
