Yes. The problem with the likes of hotmail is that people can easily create multiple accounts. Hence when you ban them, if you just ban the account and email, they can easily just sign up again with a new email address. Limiting it to email addresses from ISPs (Internet Service Provider - the lot who you pay a monthly fee to for the internet connection), etc..., mean that it is a lot harder for people just to make a new email address and sign up again. That said some ISPs allow you to make multiple email addresses whilst others don't include email at all any more. I think there are some online emails which often aren't blocked though I can't remember which of the top of my head. Personally I think it is better to ban an IP rather than an email but that can cause problems when the person is using a public area for internet access (eg. college) as you would accidently ban multiple people. Also you have the problem that in such areas the person doesn't always have the same IP address. Also the other problem is that if the person is internet savy they can just setup a proxy to get around an IP ban in anycase. Hence most places rely on a mix of the two. If you do a search on the likes of google you can probably find a more obscure email provider that won't be banned. As they have to do it by name generally. Alternatively if you ask around someone might allow you to use a spare ISP account if they have one. Not sure what is said in terms and conditions of the ISPs about doing that though. Hope you manage to get this sorted. David.
