Hi my name is Andy,

I am maried with two children Stephen who is 12 and who has Asperger's and Louise who is 3. Stephen is in main stream school and who is doing fairly well at present. But, is still hard work to keep him motivated!

I am looking forward to hearing from others who have children with Asperger's. As I believe, "a problem shared is a problem halved".

With kind regards

Andy

Hello

I've just joined this forum. My name is Ivy, hubby is Andrew and our DS is Aidan who is nearly 2.5yrs old. We are currently waiting to see the multi-disciplinary team so at the start of what seems like a very long and daunting journey.

We first had concerns about Aidan when he was 14mths old but our then HV didn't want to know. We have since moved and our new HV is great and it is she who is getting the ball rolling for us and guiding us through this battlefield.

Looking forward to getting to know you all. I've got lots to learn and have learnt so much from browsing this forum already. I'm sure you'll see me posting my endless questions soon so :notworthy: in advance to those who choses to take the time to offer their help, guidance, advise and love.

Ivy

Hi there,

My name is Dave and I have a great HFA son called Sean. He will be 5 in ten days.

My wife and I found out he was HFA back in February, and all in all we have positive outlook.

Sean attends a local primary school who have so far been really great. Tey also seem to have had some experience with ASD kids and seem have a good structure for supporting us.

I had a good look over the board last night, and it really seems like a great place, with nice people, and I am impressed by wealth of information and support concentrated on this little board.

Glad to be aboard.

Cheers

Dave :)

Hi my name is Joy I was told about this site from someone on Uk parents. I have a son Marcus 11 years who has high functioning Autism, and twins Piers and Lydia who are just 3. I am a busy working mum to the above and Wife to Miles who is a biomedical scientist. I am a midwife working 30 hours a week and in my spare time I am a cloth nappy advisor for team Lollipop. I live in a crazy, busy house and currently feel as if I am cracking up, being pulled between everyone here and work, but that is life as they say. We also have 3 cats, 1 guinea pig and 2 goldfish. Marcus was diagnosed at 4 goes to mainstream school and is having a bit of a tough time at the moment as he goes to comprehensive in September and is also a little bit hormonal. Hope to gets lots of helpful advice on here.

Hi, I'm Stella. I have 2 boys, both with dx of aspergers. AJ, my eldest is 14 and been in trouble at school since Reception. He is now in Year 9 and at risk of expulsion for continued low level disruption. He was only dxed last year and having been labeled 'naughty boy' it is now very difficult to overcome the label and get teachers to accept that there may be other issues going on. With everything I have learnt I can now see how a lot of his behaviour is misconstrued - lack of eye contact is not him being rude, he can't do it, he can't verbalise a lot of what he does ( I am refering him to a private psychiatrist for this as CAMHS have been useless), the meltdowns he has after school which have resulted in the police being called after punching walls etc.

My younger son, 11, OJ was diagnosed last year after a complete breakdown at school. I had been going in for several years saying that something was wrong, was he aspergers, had they noticed funny face grimaces etc and they said, no. He has since been dxed aspergers, Tourettes and OCB. He spent most of Year 5 out of school because he couldn't cope with other children, noise, assembly, PE and several other subjects. He has gone back this year but it is still a daily struggle, not just with him but with the school. He has been targeted by a really nasty boy and this has resulted in him being stabbed in the back with a pen last week. The boy was given a one day suspension!!!!

I think thats enough for the moment but I need later to mention my husband who is not dxed but definately aspergers and my father who is aspergers and Tourettes age 75 but will not even consider it (and why should he if he's got to that age without it bothering him!). got to go now to pair read a dragon story to OJ!!

Hello :)

I never know quite what to say with these introduction things, I feel like I'm back at school standing up in front of the class & turning into a nervous wreck again! But here goes...

I am mum to a 9yo son who although the specialist has said he probably has AS she was reluctant to 'label' him as he seemed to be getting on 'ok' at school - something his teacher and I don't particularly agree with! He also has dyspraxia and is on the waiting list for help from the local OT dept.

He seems to have one of the good teachers - it was actually his teacher who picked up on all the symptoms at the beginning of the school year & suggested he may have AS & pushed for testing through the school (I was getting nowhere!). We will be very sad to say good bye to this teacher at the end of the year in a few weeks :(

I guess I've come here to be able to talk to people who know what it's like (!) share problems & suggestions and also to try to figure out which areas of his behaviour are due to AS & which are just what all kids are like! And also just to natter ;)

Hi,

My son was diagnosed with high-functioning autism a year ago at the age of thirteen. We are now appealing the LEA's decision not to do a statement for our son (a full-time occupation). In the meantime, it has already been a great help to come onto this site and find others in the same boat as us - so necessary right now :wallbash:

Hope I can be of help to the forum too!

Hello

I am a single mum (and law student) with a beautiful 5 year old daughter who has an ASD, known as PDAS. For those of you who are blissfully unaware of this ASD, it's full name is Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome and it does exactly what it says on the tin!

I heard about this site through a mum already here, as her son attends my dd's school.

We share our lives with a ginger moggie (and his dodgy kidneys!!), 2 hamsters and a goldfish.

im a mum of two great kids a son 13 ASD, tourettes, OCD, DCD, anxiety also on meds, a daughter 9 aspergers who also self harms.

Had a bad year with tourettes trying to get meds right, he's now back in school but has no confidence.

Can anyone advise on self harm as its very distressing in a child of 9.

I work part time in a special school with ASD KS1 kids and i love it. This is very hard for me, i have never done anything like this before

Hi Marmalade and May! M&M?

Nice to have you here! Marmalade, I was not aware of PDAS before you had posted it here, but I am willing to learn about it!

May, I have a son (14) who has ASD too. So we can probably compare notes on what a great time they are having at their schools.... :crying: I am sorry, though, but I cannot advise you on the self-harming. I can offer my sympathies and hope someone else on the forum has more experience in this area than I do.

Hang in there, ladies... you have come to the right place. I am a newbie here too and I can already highly recommend this site. You will gain great support and advice - so welcome to you both from a fellow newbie!

ta for now

Hi may - and welcome to the forum :D:thumbs:

Glad you found us.....

Not sure if the last part of your post (This is very hard...) referred to your work or to posting on forums - but either way i am sure it will get easier and i hope it proves a fulfiilling, rewarding and positive addition for you.

Personally, I haven't much experience of tourettes or self-harm, but with the wealth of knowledge on this forum i'm sure someone will be able to offer you some useful advice.

There's a search facility in the top R/H corner. It's not the greatest search engine on the planet, but if you search on 'tourettes' you should get a few hits to read through.

Any specific questions are probably best flagged in 'Help and advice' thread, but they'll probably get picked up elsewhere if just a little more slowly.

Hope to 'see' more of you on the boards, and same of course to any other 'newbies' since my last post :)
