Hi Mango,

Welcome to the forum. :) I've moved your post to General Discussion where more people will see it - I hope that's OK.

Sorry to hear you're in a tough situation right now. I hope now that you've found us you'll feel a little less alone. There are a lot of adult members with AS here.

Hi Mango and welcome to the forum.

I'm 26 and was diagnosed with AS last year.

I'm sorry to hear you're facing such a tough situation. You just have to take one day at a time. Life does get better :)

I think I should have just stuck to 'aspies for freedom!' I'm not finding the forum very helpfull at all.. all the people here seem to be parent's and I hav4e messaged a few people and they just didn't respond and one did but she just said 'I don't think I can help in any way!'

I'm sorry you feel that way Mango. There are quite a few AS adults on here as well as parents. I might be wrong, but I think people mostly start off by posting publicly, then start to pm peeps they have something in common with. I personally wouldn't have felt comfortable pm'ing peeps I didnt know when I first joined. So if you are not posting publicly, its easy to feel neglected.

Hope that helps :)

Don't give up Mango, keep posting and lots of people here will answer and give you as much support as they can. Once you get to know people around here, you'll find that everyone, no matter what their circumstances, will be understanding and will want to be there for you. I suppose the help we give each other is limited, but at least we're here to listen to each other.

Take care.

Hi Mango,

I'm sorry you feel that way about the forum. I hope you'll stick with us and give us another chance.

The majority of people here are parents, it's true, but there are a significant and growing number of adults with AS.

There may be many reasons why people don't respond to pm's. If you can perhaps say a little bit more about your situation on the public forum, there may be someone out there who is able to help you. Many of us may not have enough experience of your particular issues to offer any practical advice, but you can be assured that people will listen to you and support you.

Erm ... no, not unless labour is painless/messyless and I've misplaced my sprogs :)

We've had discussions about different forums before - it's simply that people are different and respond to different environments. I've found a 'home' here and I hope you can do that same, be it here or on another forum - the support I get is amazing, I like the fact that this isn't just AS people, but parents, professionals, etc.

Mango,

Yes there might be lots of parents here, but there are parents of older children too, as well as parents who themsleves have a diagnosis and adult members too with ASD's there is a wealth of knowledge, advice and expereinces to share, which given a a chance might answer some questions for you.

Please don't give up on us yet.

Clare

Mango, I'm sorry you are not finding the forum helpful.

Personally, the reason I did not reply to your PM was because I felt uncomfortable being personal questions by someone I didn't know. I also didn't think I could help you at all with your current situation, and didn't know what to say. I don't know about the others, but I'm sure they all had their reasons as well.

It might be best if you try to get to know people a bit before PMing them.
