Mumble Report post Posted April 11, 2008 What does it mean if I get an error message when trying to install new software saying: SQL online book <somethingorother> database access corrupt, SQL <blah blah blah> failed to install?????? I then had the choice to retry, continue or abort installation - I clicked - continue And then the error messages came ... and came ... and came ... I can't get back to the error massage which had instructions on what to do to fix it as the retry option sent it into a loop of the same thing over and over again, so had to get out of it or could do nothing with the computer. Is it OK to use semi-installed software or will that create havoc when I transfer files to the college machines with fully installed software??
baddad Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Hi mumble - pure guess, but some software has to 'validate' online (even shop bought software) could be that the server is down, or that your not online or something like that? Maybe you were supposed to input a software 'key' at some point and missed that step? ? BD
Mumble Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Thanks for your help BD - yes it needed a key, but I hadn't got to that stage - it wouldn't install my SQL Server Native Client somethingorother. But - 3 hours of slogging through help files and online forums related to the software (the actual software help/online support was useless), I think () I've installed it and so far it seems ok (). I was missing 'permissions', it was interacting with my virus thingy, and the best one - I had lower case letters in my computer name!!!!! You can't call a computer Bob, but you can call it BOB  I think I may charge the programme makers for putting me half a day behind with my work ... Canopus Report post Posted April 14, 2008 The sinister world of SQL databases. They are the engine behind discussion forums like this. Sometimes SQL client software requires an empty database to already exist before it will function.
