Hi teresa - don't know anything about this specifically, but be careful what you do to try and get rid of it... If your antivirus manufacturer has a user forum look there, or look the official websites of other well known antivirus manufacturers or any advice sites you know to be generally safe. DON't download anything off the internet that promises to cure your problem unless you know it's a legit AV programme from a legit site... doing a quick search on the internet the virus name appears to be one used by Mcafee (av manufacturers all tend to have different names for the same trojan or whatever) so you could start by looking at their site. I also noticed a couple of threads in a cnet forum and cnet is usually fairly reliable...

Hope someone can offer something more specific, but hope that's useful in the interim.

Sounds nasty.

We had something like that some time ago, this one would disappear for a few days and then pop up again.

When I told our local computer man, it seemed the message is the all part of a scam to get you to pay money for an antivirus/spy-ware, the message IS the virus.

Anyway we ended up having the hard drive wiped and reloaded, only way to get rid of it.

And then changed our antivirus protection to one recommended by him, not the one B.T. use.

Lets hope what you have isn't the same.

Thanks for your reply's, my spyware etc.. comes as a package with my broadband, have looked to see what it might be on the net but not found out much. Spyware can quaratine it but not delete it, and it's showing in the spyware log as registry not spyware cookie. Have backed my work up and done a system restore not sure what else i can do.

Thanks

Teresa

Hi teresa - if it's quarantined you should be okay, unless it's one that reinstalls itself every time you restart. If that is happening then you will have to track it down and delete the installer from the registry, but if you're not getting 'fresh' versions when you scan again then you're probably safe.

System restore might have helped, provided you went back to a place prior to infection and it's not installed a root kit in the registry. hope so.
