at last!

Recommended Posts

well we had our first camhs meeting today and i feel soooooooo much better.

he showed us the letter the dr had sent asking for referral which basiclly said he needs assessing for behaviour issues.

he asked me and hubbie questions for 2 hours and then asked if we had considered asd.........we said yes and he advised that he couldn't diagnose but from the info we had given they may look down that route.

he then brought son into the room and spoke to him for about 1/2 hour and said he could understand where we were coming from .......AT LAST! someone who doesn't think i'm a paranoid, over protective mother!

he also said he was suprised school hadn't picked up on this sooner......i'm not suprised in the least.......academically he is doing fine and school have always said there is no point bringing anyone in unless they are causing big problems and he isn't......but that isn't the point is it?

anyway......he is getting someone into school to observe him and he will come back to our house in 2 weeks to talk to son further

B) Pleased it went well for you, unfortunately my son and from what I've heard many other children also struggle to get assessed with problems as they are doing well academically but we just have to fight the corner for them in any way we can.

Over protective mother is a phrase I know all too well and hate, had my son close to being damaged internally as was extremely dehydrated with a stomach bug and they kept saying overprotective mother as he still seemed happy and was ok (poss part to do with being on the spectrum, he still doesn't notice when he is ill and appears fine) , then they realised when he passed out I wasn't being overprotective. And also with the youngest who it turned out had severe asthma, I was telling the GP he went blue in the face all the time, he was 11 weeks old but they didn't believe that until they seen it and rushed him into hospital. So much for proffesionals.

To conclude my small rant ( sorry )

We aren't over protective mothers, we are the experts , we know our kids best!!!!!! Never let anyone tell you otherwise.
