JeanneA Report post Posted February 22, 2011 My son Glen who is away at the moment having a mental health assessment and the psychiatrist at the hospital is reducing his prozac and is going to introduce Mirtazapine for his depression. I just wondered if anyone else's child had ever been on this medication and if so did it help?
JeanneA Report post Posted March 1, 2011 I have just heard that Glen will be started on a 7.5mg dose of mirtazapine and if he tolerates it ok it will be increased to 15mg.
Tally Report post Posted March 1, 2011 My ex-husband took Mirtazipine for depression and he found it was quite effective. It's quite a different medication to Prozac so if that hasn't worked or caused side effects then this could well work well for Glen. It is well known for causing drowsiness, so should normally be taken just before bed time. This may well be a very good thing if Glen has difficulty sleeping, but the drowsiness can last into the next day.
