JeanneA Report post Posted August 13, 2012 Please can someone advise me. I've had a visit from someone from the Financial Assessment Team regarding the ESA benefit. All I wanted was advice on Glen's behalf for next year when his education ends. Glen's social worker referred me to the assessment team. However the guy that came said I had to claim for ESA now and should have done from when Glen was 18, I explained that the funding had been granted until Glen was 19 and that Glen shouldn't be paying anything until then. This guy though was very persistent and said to claim NOW. I have tried contacting Glen's social worker but she is out of office!! Can anyone tell if they are in a similar position to Glen or no someone who is, are you entitled to ESA whilst still in full time education whilst in a care home? I would really appreciate your replies. Many thanks.

JeanneA Report post Posted August 20, 2012 I made my claim for Glen regarding ESA over the phone this morning, it seemed to have went ok. They are going to send for a letter to sign and I have to get a medical report from Glen's doctor. So it looks like Glen will receive ESA as I was told by the financial adviser who came to see me last week.
JeanneA Report post Posted September 3, 2012 I'm off to the job centre today to take a letter I have from Glen's psychiatrist stating that Glen cannot work and that he has severe autism and learning difficulties and has to have support with every aspect of his life. So I'm hoping this letter will be sufficient evidence for them. I am claiming for ESA from August 10th but so far haven;t received any money of behalf of Glen. Hopefully if this letter is acepted then I will start receiving money for him Does anyone know how long this process takes, is it a long wait until you get any money received into your account for the first time? Charlie C Report post Posted September 3, 2012 Hopefully you won't have to attended a ESA face to face medical and be placed into the support group straight away, I think this will be the case with the evidence you have.
Special_talent123 Report post Posted September 3, 2012 I have been placed in support group six months ago, six months later another one. I was told by ESA it has to be filled out six montly to see if your needs changed, which mine has tremendously any way
