amberzak Report post Posted October 9, 2012 Hi. I'm 29 and have undiagnosed Asperger's. I'm very lucky in that I have a very lovely doctor who is very supportive. He referred me to the only place that does adult diagnoses in the area (the next county over and about 2 hours drive away). But the problem is that we needed the primary care trust to pay for it, and they turned down funding. The doctor said I could be self funded. I can't find out how much it's going to cost me though. Can anyone advise? Also, can anyone tell me if they know of any charities etc who might be able to help with the funding. I'm training to be a teacher, and was advised diagnoses is crucial, but I don't get much money training. Anyone else had any similar experiences? rufusrufus Report post Posted October 9, 2012 Hi there. Here's a list of doctors who assess / diagnose adult females with AS, from Rudy Simone's website: http://help4aspergers.com/pb/wp_05797c6f/wp_05797c6f.html When I was looking into it, one place near me charged £300 for the assessment and the report they have to write, but that was the only place that explicitly stated the cost on their website, so I have no idea if that's the going rate, or higher, or lower. Best of luck!
trekster Report post Posted October 9, 2012 Would they diagnose males? I know someone in the B&NES area who is trying to get diagnosed.
Willow-Tree Report post Posted October 10, 2012 We paid over around £1100 to see a specialist who diagnosed me and my Fiancé and provided full written reports, So, around £600 each, although he had to spend more time with me as I have more than just AS. I'm sorry I can't help more than that, as I had to find the money myself - although we came to an arrangement to pay monthly, so maybe you could find someone who will spread the cost. Good luck
rufusrufus Report post Posted October 10, 2012 Would they diagnose males? I know someone in the B&NES area who is trying to get diagnosed. You'd have to phone and ask I should think. I can't see why not, I think they were just on Rudy Simone's list because they are known to have experience diagnosing (and spotting) AS in women, because it can manifest so differently.
