But in support of late diagnosis....

Recommended Posts

Despite getting diagnosed late with ASD and finding the cupboard is bare in terms of support there is something to be said about pursuing this thing and that is for self knowledge obviously but something else and that is for the NT or otherwise population to understand there is method to our madness it is for a reason and really, we can't help it, it is what it is, but what we are is grown up versions of all the children we hear about with this 'new' difference, as I am sure others diagnosed and to be, have experience others quizzical looks and suggestions that what we do is not pc or not the done thing in some way, suggestions where pre diagnosis you might think you are plain deficient or obviously mad to invite such questionable comment, a process which really does some significant psychological damage to those clueless as to why they appear so different to their contemporaries leading to such things as depression.

But the future of adults with this thing is changing for no longer really can adults be ignored and that because children become adults and the 'care' cannot just stop at age eighteen, not when it has been there for such a long period of the new adults life.

But only this week have we experienced someone coming here to ask the late diagnosed to complete a questionnaire, thus indicating at last interest is growing in the ugly truth, the veritable elephant in the room.
