JeanneA Report post Posted April 10, 2013 Hi guys sorry I haven't been on the forum much lately, I've not been well for sometime, had some kind of flu virus that just won't go away, but feeling a bit better today.Just thought I would update you on how Glen is doing. He has been having a mental health assessment at a specialist autism hospital. Glen's doing fantastically well, he is so happy and much less anxious than I've seen in some time. He rarely self harms now or hit out at anyone, staff have told that Glen strokes his face if he's feeling anxious not slap it as he before. Next Friday, is the discharge meeting and then sometime during May Glen will be moving to Essex about 40 minutes away from home, which is great news, I can't to see him more often. The manager and staff of the new care home have visited Glen at the hospital and all is going well. I will let you know how the discharge meeting goes. Sally44 Report post Posted April 13, 2013 Did they have any suggestions as to why they felt he was hurting himself?
JeanneA Report post Posted April 13, 2013 hi Sally, the hospital staff feel it's because Glen was really unhappy at the care home he was in. It was a small care home with 5 residents and mostly male members of staff. Glen has always appeared to get on better with females, and has never like small spaces. Glen's room was very tiny, I was really surprised when I saw it. Another reason that Glen used to hit himself to the degree that he did was he only had one drive out in the van a week whereas in the previous care home he was out in the van practically every day. I kept on telling the management that Glen needs his drives but they wouldn't listen to me they just said 'Glen would get used to it' When Glen was refused drives he used to self harm with force and hit members of staff with force also. I am so pleased Glen isn't at that care home anymore, and feel guilty that I agreed to him going there in the first place. I just can't wait until Glen's in Colchester, so I and his siblings can see him more often.

JeanneA Report post Posted April 15, 2013 Thank you. My husband and I are going to Glen's discharge meeting on Friday, we are traveling up Thursday. It will be nice to see Glen and to also hopefully know a date when Glen will leave and move into his new care home. :-)
JeanneA Report post Posted April 20, 2013 (edited) Hi, the discharge meeting went well. Glen moves to Colchester on May 15th so not long now. Glen was very happy to see us yesterday, I could even give him a kiss and hug something that I've never felt comfortable doing before as always been afraid of being hit. I'm feeling a bit down this morning as I always do when I've got home again as I miss Glen so much, but keep thinking about how happy and giggly he was yesterday and how much he enjoyed his treats that I took him :-) Edited April 20, 2013 by JeanneA
oxgirl Report post Posted April 20, 2013 It's lovely to hear about your wonderful visit with Glen and so glad the move will be going ahead. You're bound to feel a bit down after that, it's the anti-climax and regret that it had to end, but try to hold on to the positives and the thought that's it's all going to be okay. ~ Mel ~ x
