Hooray. LA agreed Asperger Specialist School

The LA Additional Needs Coordinator has rang today after Panel sat on Wednesday and says LA will put offer in writing early next week naming Asperger specific school for my son. Placement to be reviewed in December. The relief of not having to go to tribunal in January is great. I can hardly see straight.

That is really good. Why is the placement to be reviewed in December? If they name the placement, then they need to follow the Annual Review process and review the Statement, which includes the placement, a year later.

 

Has this school said how they will reintegrate him into school?

 

With my son he went for just two afternoons a week to begin with, and that was spent with the speech therapist and occupational therapist. It took about a term before he was gradually introduced to the classroom and then his classmates, and it took about a year for him to be in full time. So make sure it is a gradual return, and don't agree to anything if you think they are pushing too much for him to be in full time. You want it to happen in a way that your son is okay to cope with so that his trust and confidence increases.
