Sometimes people don't comment because they don't have any advice to give.

But I know it is frustrating when you are waiting and hoping that someone will have something useful to your situation.

Remember also that everyone is on here voluntarily, and have their own SEN children and their own issues.

I presume she had a Statement to be in the special school? Do you still have the Statement or did it cease when she started college?

There are special schools that go up to age 19. My son is at an independent school until 19. Then we will see if there is something suitable at a college etc.

But those schools that go up to age 19 are usually independent schools.

You have proof that she was not suitable for a special needs college so her needs are complex and severe.

What was it that caused the placement to break down? Ie a lack of life skills, support, experienced/qualified teachers or that she needs additional therapy etc.

If you are still looking at education, then I think getting advice from IPSEA would be useful. They have an appointment system now which is better than repeatedly trying to phone them.

Do you want her to return to education up to age 19 - and by education that means life skills and social skills etc?

We will need more information in order to be able to offer useful replies.

Was it an LA or independent special school? An independent or LA specialist college? Day or residential? Was it an ASD specialist college or LD or ? What are the reasons it failed? Lack of support, too busy an environemt, level of work too hig/low/academic/practical?

What are her complex needs? Dyslexia/ASD/AS/ADHD/challenging behaviour/LD?

What are her social and independence skills like?

What sort of things does she like to do/study?

What area of the country are you in?

I think we need more information before anyone can give advice. What is she trying to achieve and why did the specialist college fail?

My suggestions would be (a) to talk to the college and get their take on why it failed - ask them what they would recommend and (B) talk to other specialist education settings to see if they are more suitable.

If things are not going well then it may be worth putting the idea of college to one side for a year or so and coming back to it a little later
