morgi Report post Posted October 5, 2004 I just heard this on the radio news, then looked at the BBC link you provided - Horrified.....I thought to detain under the mental health act 2 doctors had to sign the form !!!! nellie Report post Posted October 5, 2004 Morgi I think you are correct, to detain someone under the mental health act you do need the signature of two doctors. This man was detained under common law, (not sure what this means). It often happens that certain people are unable to understand what is happening to them and accept what they are told or they do understand but are unable to have their voice heard. I have known cases where parents are not allowed to act for their adult offspring as they no longer have any legal rights. Yes, I agree, it's horrific. Nellie.
