Does anyone know what this means?

Recommended Posts

I had a message from my pooter saying-:

Power surge on hub port. A usb device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of it's hub port. You should disconect the device.

What does all that mean, what device?

It says if I don't disconect the device it wont work. It wont bl**dy work if I disconect it either. The device I have to disconect is unknown.

HELP!

have u a usb hub connected to the back of your pc? it takes extra usb devices such has a web, modem, just gives u extra usb ports for exterial divices like the above for example.

if they has been a power surge you may be better disconnecting so it doesnt spark etc then it wont work and by disconnecting it may settle the current flow inside so you can use again later on after a few hours.hope that helps.just going by what mine does.

Quite possibly Viper. Disconnect the hub by either turning off the computer or using the 'Safely remove hardware' option in the system tray. When the pc has been running a while plug in the hub (without anything plugged into it) and run it like that for a while. If it is stable then a bit later add one device and repeat this until it all either is working or, you get the error message. If you do get an error message it means the last device you plugged in is the dodgy one (at least in theory!).
