    ASDAN courses

Thanks for the infor. I'm still not sure what he's doing as such, but have been told it will count as a GCSE....!? He does a lot of presentations in their assembly (certainly not of a religious content... Unless Sonic and Mario have become a religion... and for Bill I think maybe they already are Flora
  3. I bought one of those combs years ago when they were only available on the internet. They DO trap everything but are very hard to clear. Keep a bowl of hot water by to rinse, and use something pointy (like another comb etc) to shift any stubborn little blighters out of the prongs! You still need plenty of conditioner on to use it, and something with tea tree oil in (which apparently lice don't like) is good to use as shampoo during the treatment time (which is about 2 weeks)... oh and don't forget baddad... if Ben has them, there's a good chance you'll have them too Happy nit picking! 4. Hi Elefan, My son (he's 15 now but was about 12 when the question of resi was first mooted) was vehemently against the idea of school per se, and the suggestion that the solution lay in him going to one where he'd have to sleep there was met with great hostility! However, the answe lay in the fact that after looking at a couple of these school I just KNEW that it was what he needed. So I spent a long time wearing him down! I worked on the psychology behind the 'need for an education', and what he would achieve or not achieve depending how he does at school (ie... future employment etc). In effect when it came to the nitty gritty I handed over the responsiblity to him. Pointing out that without an education and no gainful employment he'd never be able to afford to support himself in the manner he'd grown accustomed to. This was a long arduous process and took a long time before it even began to filter through. He's been at his resi school since April last year and I never even hear from him. I might get one 5 minute phone call a week if he feels like having a grumble at someone and that's it. He's postiviely thriving. This may not work for everyone, but it certainly worked for Bill. Good luck! Flora
  5. My son had/has selective mutism. It's a horrible co-morbid and can really have a pervasive effect on their whole development. I'm not sure if it is a result of regression or if it actually causes regression, but it is an extremely disabling condition as it appears to have a detrimental affect on all areas of functioning. He is much better now than he was but is still much less vocal than he was before he developed this co-morbid. It seemed to kick in when he hit puberty and I'm hoping and praying that once he reaches adulthood it will disappear again. Flora
  6. Wasn't going to come on or even come back but really wanted to say.... To anyone and everyone who I have upset by anything I've said ever, I am trully sorry for that. I don't set out with the intention of upsetting or hurting anyone but as the saying goes... the road to hell is paved with intention. I won't defend myself, but I will concede that I'm a very reactive person and don't always acknowledge when it's time to shut up. Again, trully sorry. Flora
  7. I'm not being unpleasant, and I'm definitely not making threats. Really I'm not. I'm going bid. You don't have to keep on at it really you don't because I'm no longer here! Without typing an essay there is no way that I can explain or prove that I'm not being unpleasant or threatening. I haven't got time to write an essay. We were friends once and I have absolutely no intention of airing this here or anywhere else. To others this thread was a discussion that got a bit heated, lets leave it at that. Best wishes bid. Life's too short to drag this out. Flora
  8. For all the members who have posted in or read this thread; don't give up on the forum if you are finding it useful or supportive just because a few people chose to throw bricks at each other or portray it as a bad place. It really is a very good and useful resource despite the odd bit of sniping bid, you most certainly were baiting, but that's by the by and I won't belabour the point nor go into details on why I know you were. I haven't been on the forum much the past few weeks because I have major changes going on in my personal life. All good changes, but are causing a bit of upheavel at the moment so I don't have the time, energy or inclination to come here and be sniped at anymore. Take care all. Flo'
  9. That's very good news Suze and I'm really pleased for you. I think they should've given you the job, but what they've offered will probably lead to that eventually, and it will also be a nice way of getting to know the ropes without any major pressure. Hope you get a lot out of it as I know you'll put a lot into it. Very best of luck to you. All the best Flora <'>
  10. Just want to clarify a couple of points and one or two other things. When a membership of a forum is as large as this one it's inevitable that it will take on a life of it's own. At one time, going back a few years, the mods/admins and established posters set the tone of the forum. Then the membership grew very quickly and suddenly the tone changed with it. It's natural progression and while it might be difficult for some people to adjust to that, it's inevitable. As such, the mods don't set the tone of this forum now, they moderate what is happening and that is all they do! So please, if anyone doesn't like it, lets not blame the people who are keeping it safe! Secondly, just to defend myself as I seem to have been the cause a bit of contention, I am far from being a vindictive, aggressive or unfriendly person. Being a northerner I'm a bit blunt and as I touch type I tend to type the way I speak, but as there is no body language or other mannerisms in typing, it maybe comes accross worse than it would sound live IYKWIM. People who know me in r/l either accept that about me or they don't, but the people that do accept it find themselves with a very good and loyal friend who would always treat them fairly and with bags of respect. Thirdly, loads of valid points in this thread as long as you can pick your way through the palpable fog of hypocrisy. Flora
  11. I don't think you are turning my question around there emum. That's exactly the same point I was making and I agree with it 100% Flora
  12. Not supportive? I'm always willing, happy, and ready to offer my support to anyone in areas where I have some knowledge and experience. I'm sure there are others here who would agree. Please don't insinuate that I'm an unsupportive member because belive me I have a very clear concience on that score. Mods, you all deserve a medal. I did it for a few months and it's got to be the most thankless task that anyone could voluntarily do! Flora
  13. It's not an attitude. I'm using my common sense as an adult. I'm not spiteful nor aggressive. I have a very decisive way of wording things and will come back with one if someone has a go at me. However, surely as adults (and not delicate little flowers) we can put up with that? This thread is a case in point. The forum is being criticised, someone else defends it, (ie me) but now I've got an attitude. I rest my case! Flora
  14. The only thing wrong with this forum are the people who whinge about it. The people who can't take anyone having a different opinion to their own. The people who think that those who DO have a different opinion to them are being horrible. That's what's wrong with this forum. If everybody stopped whinging about it and just started enjoying it for what it IS, (ie an informative, and Supportive (yes it is supportive.... everyone who has complained on this thread has received support at one time or another) resource) then there'd be no uneccessary worries. Tbh, I don't know why anyone bothers if it's that bad. If you feel so bad about it why come on here and post about it? Why not just go and find another source of support and information? Flora
  15. I don't think so. I think there are a lot of strong characters on the forum and people with strong opinions and thankfully we have the mods so that when those people do disagree we can all know it won't be descending into mayhem, or if it does it will soon be cut short. I'm more than happy with how this forum is moderated, and I do feel that it's healthy for one strong opinion to be balanced by another. As for the forum, thank god for it I say. Without this forum I would never have accessed the support, advice and information that I did to help me through a huge and difficult appeal tribunal. Flora
  16. I haven't got time to type much, but two years ago I was in a very similar situation regarding my son and school. To cut a long story short, he was signed off sick by a child psychiatrist when he had a break down and there followed a year long battle with the LEA, culminating in a big tribunal which I won in February last year. My son is now thriving in an AS specific special school at a cost of OVER 100K to the LEA. 7,500 a term is peanuts in comparison. You can read my old threads for the whole story, and if I've got time later I'll pop back and send you a pm. Flora

    Can't Sleep

Since Christmas day I've slept a total of 40 hours. It might not sound bad but if you divide that by however many days there are between Christmas day and now, it's not a lot of sleep! I have no idea how I'm still functioning, pure adrenalin I guess... so I'll be watching this thread with interest. Having tried all the usual remedies at my disposal, including melatonin, walks, hot baths, hot milk, getting up early and keeping busy etc, I don't know what to do! Flo'

    I'm Cold!!!

I've been cold since I got this rotten cold/flu/virussy thing which seems to pretend to go away and then suddenly flare up again I have thermal long johns and long sleeved thermal vest, which I put on under my pj's (very becoming ). Then I have two hot water bottles and put one under my neck/shoulders and the other under my feet and lower back alternately. It really works!!!! Flo'
  19. Tbh, I don't care what people call it. We are the sum of our parts. I think the problems come down to whether you are trying to seek help, either for yourself or someone in your care. A full dx CAN be a key (don't laugh!). But at the end of the day, if you've got a problem that isn't going to go away, sooner or later somebody will be forced to take notice. From my own personal standpoint, I don't really care. I am who I am, and as I'm not looking for anything over and above what I already have then I'm happy to be called a pussy cat or a raving lunatic Flo'

  23. Well, due to the fact that I can't keep my mouth shut when I'm drunk, I have about 12 people coming to mine tomorrow for a curry and to celebrate the new year (it seemed a really good idea after two bottles of cava the sunday before Christams!). So I'm in the process of cleaning up the house after the kids have spread every present they ever got from one end to the other, hoovering up, mopping floors and making 3 big pans of different types of curry. Yay.... NOT! Why do we do these things? Ah well.... it could be worse. Flo' oh, and I forgot to mention on the top of all of this the flu bug has done it's rounds (hope it's finished now!) in my house and we're all at various stages of recovery!!! Anyone else had the nasty little flu bug that's going around?

    Big Plans

Tally, Sometimes when things get to that level of being intollerable you just have no choice for your own sanity but to cut loose. I've done it myself in the past, when I had the luxury of only having me to be responsible for (not so easy with 3 children!!). For what it's worth, if your way of life is making you so unhappy I think you have absolutely made the right choice to make radical changes. Very best of luck with all your new plans. And here's to a very peaceful, fullfilling and happy 2009 for you (and all of us for that matter). Flora XXXXXXXXXX
