HI All My son has just joined this group and wants to post a message, however he keeps getting an error returned as "you do not have permission to post on this board" and this happens for all boards. Whats happening? Are we both being completely brain dead here? Help please! Lisa

Hi C is now 17 and still has a few meltdowns at school. They are getting less, but school staff are finding it hard to help and I don't know what to suggest When he has a meltdown, he won't or can't calm down, anything said to him doesn't get through, he gets in such a tizz that help just washes over him. I don't know what to suggest or do, both to and for him and to and for school staff. Meltdowns are usually school work related, or due to unforseen changes. He wants to go to university in September 07 - I dread the thought of people relatively new to him having to deal with this. Can anyone suggest anything? Cheers L

Not sure if there is such a thing as the Freedom of Information act (I think there is!) but you should be able to request copies of all relevant information from the insurance brokers under this Act. L

Hi Ian This is Chris Sound and smell - "Whats that noise?" or "Whats that smell?" long before anyone else is aware of noise/smell. However, always seems to have TV/Ipod turned up really loud without it bothering him. shortsighted. Sensation - little things which I thought shouldn't bother him (like scratches or bumps) did bother him a lot, but would get splinters and leave the things in his skin until they'd gone nasty and septic (and said he hadn't noticed) Touch - hated it a few years ago, wouldn't be hugged, now quite touchy feely, will give and receive hugs. However still runs a mile when he sees me approaching as ne knows I'm about to check if his ears are clean! L

For anyone that remembers my post the other day about being stuck in the middle of the DVLA and our GP, regarding medical reports, I have some good news - Chris's licence arrived on Saturday! At the beginning of the week the DVLA were insisting on hospital records. We said there weren't any, other than those made by the paediatrician some years back, we didn't consider that he needs to be under the care of a consultant. They insisted that they must have hospital reports. I said they could either sort things out p.d.q or I would be on the phone everyday. Don't know what happened but either my reasoned arguments swayed them or someone saw sense! I have found a nice older chap who thinks he can teach Chris to drive and his first lesson is on Wednesday. He is already digesting the Highway Code (another rant - now you have to fork out for one rather than getting one with your licence!) so I hope his ability to retain facts will be useful here. Anyway, if you are around the South Gloucestershire area on Wednesday at 11am - stay off the roads! Lisa

Hmm, driving, sore point right now! Applied for Chris's licence back at end January, heard nothing, phoned DVLA, they needed medical report (well, we expected that!), phoned Dr, oh yes he'd had a letter, made appointment, go to Dr's - he'd lost the letter! Arranged for him to phone Chris next night, Chris being in school all day and at work (kitchen assistant in a nursing home, loves it) no phone call. Phone surgery, get daft receptionist who didn't seem to know her bum from her elbow! "I'll get Dr to phone now" "No thats no good, Chris told Dr he was at work at this time" "Oh I'll get him to phone tomorrow then" "No thats no good, Chris told the Dr he's at school tomorrow WHICH IS WHY WE WANTED HIM TO PHONE AT THE TIME ARRANGED!" "Oh I dunno what to do then!" Grrr! I lose it with the receptionist and get a telling off from the Dr. Eventually phone call made. What questions does Chris get asked? How does his condition affect him, etc etc? Oh no - the only thing they wanted to know was was he on any medications!!! Few more phone calls back and forth. No licence has been issued, we haven't heard from your GP (another row with receptionist who refuses to tell us anything. Eventually they give way and tell Chris that Dr wrote to DVLA a month ago. Stuck in the middle now between DVLA and GP! Week later another phone call to DVLA "Oh yes we've received it but we need to scan it rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb..." Still no licence You get the picture - we're stuck in the middle and getting nowhere! If I'd known it would take this long we would have applied six months ago! Going to phone again Tuesday and see what c**p they come out with this time. If anyone can think of a way to get through the DVLA's thick heads please let me know! Thanks for listening to me rant! LOL at Suze! Just spoke to Chris - not the only one struggling apparently - have told him to come and look on here and look at the website Phasmid put a link to. He says he's going to stick at it for a couple of weeks, review all his previous work this weekend, but if its not getting any easier he will think about changing course, IT possibly or history. Thanks Phasmid I'll show him that - hopefully it will make more sense to Chris than to me! although he was talking about seeing a teacher this am and switching to something else - if it will reduce the stress then I'm fine with that - I don't think any of us will be able to cope with this for 2 years! Well, just back into the new term, cat not very well (allergies) daughters pierced ear not healing up (yuck), dishwasher broke down (water everywhere and more expense), computer not very well (b****y blueyonder) and then theres Chris did really well in GCSE's, signed up for 4 A levels - maths, chemistry, physics and DT (oh dear, really difficult set, gulp), and last night he came home in a right stress "I can't do this, its too difficult I can't cope" nearly in tears anyone know anything about SURD's? Well I work for an IT company so suppose could ask the techie guys for help. (bit embarrassing really!) I only do goods in/out, reception and admin so its not as if I'm supposed to know what I'm doing in techie land Trouble is they use techie speak and I'm not good at that! Hi people, last night tried to download something called PCGuard from Blueyonder website, didn't install, pc crashed, internet wipted out. Got it back eventually but pc has since crashed again, we're running XP. Is my only option to phone time putors, get the disks and reinstall, and then try to set up everything again? Never intend to touch the PCGuard thing again - avoid! Lisa

He's going to study maths, science, Dt, and possibly history. We were on holiday, so did take him out to a restaurant which does enormous portions (always an important factor for Chris!) Well done to everyone else who did well, and parents for surviving the stress! Lisa

Well, we had to get Chris to "phone a friend" from Cyprus while we were away HE GOT AN A, 6 B's, 3 C's and a D!!!!!!!! 6TH FORM HERE WE COME!!! (as you can tell we are a bit pleased!) Lisa

Round here you have to "be assessed by the triage team" b4 they'll even consider letting you have an appointment. Of course the TT try to get rid of as many patients as possible - perhaps the receptionists weren't doing a very good job! I fell down the stairs and a couple of weeks later was still in pain, limping and with a swollen foot. Phoned surgery at 8.30 (as you do), told had to be assessed by TT (over the phone, without seeing my foot) who decided that I had just twisted it and should take paracetamols. Week later no improvement, gave up and went to local casualty, only to be told I had broken a couple of bones in my foot! Grrrr! Lisa

Had three goes at it between the ages of 17 and 18, failed every one, always something different (was not a Maureen from Driving School who couldn't get the hang of the gearbox!), then gave up! Hubby says he would buy me whatever I like if I try again and pass (which would be a Toyota Celica) but still not quite ready to try again! Lisa
