  1. Hi Kathryn

It is certainly worth checking whether a member has been accidentally blocked but there are some remaining problems with sending PMs to certain members.

They can be fixed on an individual basis but I need to know which members people are unable to PM.

    Kind regards

    Lufty,

Could this be something to do with the "block" facility that seems to be a new addition?

It's just that looking at my profile today I discovered I had inadvertently blocked 3 members on my pm list - I don't know how: perhaps by accidentally clicking on the "block" next to their name in my inbox? It's not obvious this has happened until you go into the block list and see the names.

  2. Hi oxgirl

As Baddad has pointed out the main problems all seem to be related around browser incompatability and in particular the AOL browser.

Can you confirm which browser you are using and also which version.

Secondly can you pm or email me with the users you can not PM as this will help me locate the problem.

The AOL problem seems to be affecting most other forums using the latest version of forum Software.

    Kind regards

  3. Hi Everyone

This is a known bug with the new forum software but unfortunately there is no fix for it at the moment.

I think it will gradually sort itself out as you send and receive PMs.

Regarding the disappearing PMs from your sent items the default for the software is not to save sent PMs but I have changed the default to have the "Save Sent PMs" ticked as a default.

    Regards

  4. Hi Bid

I have made the modification for you.

    Lufty

Sorry to ask for more Lufty, but please is it possible to set the PM tracking and 'logging as sent' as a default option again, rather than having to remember each time you PM??

Hope that makes sense, and realise you're very busy.

    Bidx

  5. Dear All

I have dealt with approximately 30 members so far who are unable to login to the new forum since the software upgrade.

If you are unable to login to the forum then please do not do any of the following :-

Go through the forgotton password routine as this will not fix the problem

Do not attempt to register again as a new user

Instead simply email admins@asd-forum.org.uk with the login that you use and we will reset your account for you.

A few members have been able to login but are unable to post. Please email admins@asd-forum.org.uk and we will investigate this for you as well although this is proving to be a more difficult problem to fix. If you experience this problem and are an AOL browser user then please try using another Internet Browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Firefox etc.

The admins are sorry for any inconvienence caused.

  6. Dear All

As a result of an urgent security issue we have upgraded the forum software to the latest version.

Normally we always try to give users advance notice of any maintainence however in this particular case we were unable to give any advance notice.

The new version of the forum software has some major "look and feel" changes as well as lots of new functionality which will take you some time to get used to.

We would like to apologise for the lack of advance notice but I am sure you can appreciate the security and integrity of the forum is our paramount concern.

    Kind regards

  7. Don't know if this is due to any of the changes, but the PMs don't seem to have the 'record in sent items' as a default setting anymore :(

Is it possible to have that back please, because I never remember to click that box each time I send a PM.

    Bid :)

    Hi Bid

Sorry about that it defaulted back to not saving a copy as a result of the logo change. It is now fixed for you.

    Regards

    Lufty

  8. Any chance we will loose saved PMs when these changes happen ?

    Hi lil_me

We will of course take a full backup of the site before we upgrade it so we can always revert back to the old version if things go wrong. With every major upgrade there is always a chance of something going wrong but we always make every effort to ensure the forum is not down for too long and the data remains safe.

    Kind regards

    Lufty

  9. Dear All

I would like to give you as much notice as possible to two changes affecting the forum in the near future.

Firstly we have decided to change the name of the forum to "Asperger and ASD UK online forum". The rationale for this is that the correct name is Asperger Syndrome rather than Aspergers syndrome and we would like to make the forum name consistant.

Secondly in the next couple of weeks we will be receiving a major new version of the forum software. This version greatly enhances the security of the forum from hacking attempts and we have decided that we must go ahead with the new version even though it will mean that there will be some changes to the look and feel of the forum. These changes include a major revision to the text editor used when making posts to the forum as well as an enhanced "My Controls" function.

We will keep you updated on both of these changes.

    Kind regards

    Lufty

  10. I may be totally wrong on this, but does the search facility work primarily on thread titles? I can often remember a phrase I used within a post but often forget the title. Can sometimes spend ages looking for a thread to see if it's been updated. 'View new posts' helps, though.

    Hi Call me jaded

Sorry I missed this question before.

The search works on a minimum of four letters but searches titles and the body of the post as well.

Give it a go by searching a word in the body of the text of a post that is not in the title and you will see it works.

    Regards

  11. Turned on the PC this am and it got stuck at the black Windows start up screen. After about 5 mins got an error message saying

    STOP:c000021a {Fatal System Error}

The Session Manager Initialisation system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of Oxc0000185 (0x00000000 0x00000000)

The system has been shut down.

Retried starting PC in safe mode but rapidly got the same message :o

    :huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh::huh:

PC working fine yesterday, not new programmes installed. DH said it did make a bit of a crackling static noise when he turned it off last night but it often does that. Worried though that something has gone in the PC and taken the disc or a vital component with it.

This is such bad timing. I need to get a presentation under way asap and I've not backed up the recent photos of the kids :( Am using H's old laptop but it's very slow and not got the same software :wallbash: .

We've got onsite warranty and H is going to call them soon but wondered if anyone had any idea what that message means or what could be wrong

    Liz x

    Hi Liz

I take it a boot up in safe mode does not fix the problem ?

I would unplug any non essential devices (printers, scanners etc.) and see if the machine boots up.

It is difficult to diagnose from the description you have given but is a major issue and might well involve you reinstalling XP.

Are you sure you did not install any software on the PC and do you have auto updates enabled ?

    Good luck

  12. Dear All

I am really pleased to announce that after very careful consideration and much discussion we have decided to appoint Mossgrove as the new moderator for the forum.

Mossgrove has been with us from almost day one and was the fifth person to join the forum so he is definitely part of the furniture and has an excellent knowledge of our members and the information which has been posted here.

Please extend the welcome and your appreciation to Mossgrove for volunteering for this role.

    Kind regards

  13. Dear All

Unfortunately due to a quirk with the forum configuration we have been using two seperate ISPs (Internet Service Providers). The forum pages have been running from our new ISP and the Database Server has been residing at our old ISP.

Today our old ISP suffered a major power failure which took out most of their servers hence the forum outage today.

We have now also migrated the database over onto our new ISP which should further improve the reliability of the forum.

The power outage this morning was a timely reminder of why we moved the forum in the first place.

    Kind regards

  14. Dear All

As you are probably aware Bid has resigned as a moderator but will be staying on as an active contributor to the forum.

Myself, Kris and Elefan would like to thank Bid for the tremendous effort she has put into moderatoring the forum.

I am pleased to announce that we have a new moderator to the forum. I am sure you will give Montee a big welcome but I will leave it to her to introduce herself properly.

The forum continues to grow and we are therefore looking for some more moderators to help share the load of keeping this forum a safe, polite and well respected ASD forum.

If you would like to be considered as a moderator then please drop myself, Kris or Elefan a PM.

    Kind regards

  16. Hi Everyone

Unfortunately DNS propagation (The process of updating site information on the Internet) can take up to 48 hours to complete successfully however most people will have been back up and running within an hour of the cutover.

Please post any specific problems you are experiencing in this thread as the propagation should be complete by now.

    Kind regards

  17. Dear All

Due to the continued growth and the popularity of this forum we need to move to another ISP.

Over the next two days the site maybe unavailable for a short period of time while the transfer takes place.

The ISP we are moving to provides professional hosting services and we hope the extra capacity and improved resilience will ensure the forum remains up and available for use 100% of the time.

We will not be making any changes to the forum software so it should be a seamless process with only a minor outage while the DNS servers on the Internet update the new ISP details.

    Kind regards

    Lufty

    Dear All

The move is now complete and most members should be able to access the forum.

    Kind regards
