  7. i just wanted to update where i am at and ask for more advice i have typed up a letter highlighting my problems with my son -before school and after and how he puts me in danger and my other son in the car to school. also put down how i feel hes struggling with homework/school work and playtimes ect i said how i though a statement would help. i sent this out to his social worker /my gp/salt/peadrictian/camhs/and a copy to the school i also encloed print outs about the passive child and the fact they keep on telling me its a home problem ect when really school is causing half of it. after complaining in the school home book and getting replys like well at christmas u cant help the change ect and also stating that they have watched my son at playtime and he is not alone....and they cant help any more than they r and its not school problem i enclosed my letter and print outs today i got reply that they will be arranging a meeting soon with senco and salt who helped to dx my son soon. i also put in letter that im waiting for appointment with casadt. i know whats going happen at this meeting as it has in the past -and with the previous school...that they will talk me out of thinking of applying for the statement. i am not very good at putting my point across ect.... whats your advice over this................i just dont want things to turn nasty and even if they say they dont think he should have one -should i still try ive spoken to a lady last night on the advocacy for education service nomber from nas and she thinks i should go for it ....shes ringing me back on sat after shes looked some things up -about transport to .... i just feel im useless at standing my ground when face to face with people.

  17. on the subject of these bulbs i had some given free to me a few years back and i went round the house putting them in........................but i couldnt get over the fact they seemed so dark and gloomy so i have to admit the light was depressing me so i changed back.............. now i have heard lately that they are going phase out the other types.................. but today when i opened the paper i found this big article about them....................tbh im a bit disturbed by it as you can see MERCURY is being used in them................now im not happy about this at all...............what do other folk think?? Low-energy bulb disposal warning Low-energy bulbs contain a small amount of mercury Disposing of bulbs safely The Environment Agency has called for more information to be made available on the health and environmental risks posed by low-energy light bulbs. It says because the bulbs contain small amounts of mercury, more information about safe recycling is needed. It also wants health warnings printed on packaging and information on how to clear up smashed bulbs in the home. But a toxicologist has played down the risks, saying several bulbs would have to be smashed at once to pose a danger. Toxic substance Environmental scientist Dr David Spurgeon said: "Because these light bulbs contain small amounts of mercury they could cause a problem if they are disposed of in a normal waste-bin. "It is possible that the mercury they contain could be released either into the air or from land-fill when they are released into the wider environment. "That's a concern, because mercury is a well known toxic substance." If you broke five bulbs in a small unventilated room then you might be in short term danger Dr David Ray, toxicologist Official advice from the Department of the Environment states that if a low-energy bulb is smashed, the room needs to be vacated for at least 15 minutes. A vacuum cleaner should not be used to clear up the debris, and care should be taken not to inhale the dust. Instead, rubber gloves should be used, and the broken bulb put into a sealed plastic bag - which should be taken to the local council for disposal. Unbroken used bulbs can be taken back to the retailer if the owner is a member of the Distributor Takeback Scheme. Otherwise, many local waste disposal sites now have the facilities to safely collect and dispose of old bulbs. However, this advice is not printed on the packaging that low-energy bulbs are sold in. Toxicologist Dr David Ray, from the University of Nottingham, said about 6-8mg of mercury was present in a typical low-energy bulb, which he described as a "pretty small amount". "Mercury accumulates in the body - especially the brain," he said. "The biggest danger is repeated exposure - a one off exposure is not as potentially dangerous compared to working in a light bulb factory. "If you smash one bulb then that is not too much of a hazard. However, if you broke five bulbs in a small unventilated room then you might be in short term danger." Information campaign Adrian Harding of the Environment Agency said: "More information does need to be made available by retailers, local authorities and the government to alert people to the best way of dealing with these products when they become waste." Louise Molloy from the environmental group Greenpeace said that a public information campaign was needed in order to advise people how to dispose of low-energy bulbs safely. But she added: "Rather than being worried about the mercury these light bulbs contain, the general public should be reassured that using them will actually reduce the amount of mercury overall in our atmosphere." The lighting industry and the government say the risk of mercury pollution posed by low-energy bulbs is minimal. Kevin Verdun of the Lighting Association said: "Fluorescent strips, like the ones used in garages and kitchens, also contain mercury and have been used for many years without poisoning anyone." But he said that warnings on how to safely dispose of smashed bulbs "might" be put on packaging in future, if the government and the public demanded it. This month shops in the UK will begin the process of phasing out traditional tungsten bulbs as part of a government plan to completely replace them by 2011. Ministers hope that using the more environmentally-friendly bulbs will save at least save 5m tonnes-worth of carbon dioxide emissions every year. 18. i just wanted to say i wrote a letter of complaint -when i was getting nowhere-and in it i put that i will be asking my gp for a referal and 2nd opion to go to elliot house.... i asked my gp who tryed to do it for me -but told she couldnt do it while my son was under the cdc where i live..........i still do not know if this was a valid reason ect....or just to put me off- not on my gps part as shes a very nice understanding lady, but i think it was maybe disscussed with others who stopped it. any way i continued to complain and in the end i did not need to go there,as eventually he got dx ,he got dx last may when he was 5.............it took me from roughly about age 1 to get to that stage. i very nearly gave in many times, but with help from this forum i actually got there. rq xxx
  19. have same problem but maybe not as bad as some as a baby my son would eat anything but this has rapidly changed .....and hes got certain meals he likes to stick to and well basicly given up on trying other combos as it either gets left or theres an almighty row and then he eats nothin....... and i do worry cause hes lost alot of weight . he will eat.... apples /currants and banana and grape-but i always arrange it the same in the dish carrots at a big push and maybe few peas but rest of veg is out-i do worry hes not eating any of the green veg he used to eat fromage frais but recently thats gone downhill.....i try to insist on it -for the calcium thing. he loves potatoe cakes......and i usually do these as a meal in themselfs with butter on..........thou it dont look like much - but he enjoys it bacon /egg and recently oat cakes with tomatoe sauce. chicken casarole-them colemans packet mix with plain rice pasta but now wont eat any sauce on it mash and baked beans i guess its not too bad but it is a bit limited another thing is he will eat certain things for his school dinner and tells me about it-then when i try it at home he refuses it cause its not exactly the same ive been through about 6 different packs of sausages -cause he says he eats that at school but all the ones ive had are not right too spicy. fishfingers and chips is ok chesse spread butties-but only cheese spread nowt else

  21. many many times go through this........ <'> >< <'> >< i am trying my best not to get drawn into the argument...............its very hard when you are feeling low/tired. the guilt u feel after is horrible and then it turns into a negative cycle............. you know its no good deep down but sometimes u cant take no more stress. best thing is to avoid the bait ....into the argument tell your child your going to ignore them now till they have calmed down remove yourself away from the situation or place your child somewhere else -while they calm down though its hard to remember all the above while its escalating.
