  1. nysnanna, My son also has both ADHD and ASD. He gets 3 full days 1:1 classroom assistance, plus every lunchtime he has a supervisor. His problem is with behaviour not academic probs. The point is, we have a good school. If your grandson only gets 6 hurs, that is awful. If he hasn't progressed with his IEP, then his IEP is all wrong. The targets must be achievable. If he isn't achieving, they cannot remove his extra help. Is he at school action, or school action plus? I have personally just applied to have my son assessed for a statement to prevent the school from removing any help from him. Contact Parent Partnership. They are very helpful, and will advise you what to do next. Parent Partnership
  2. Oh, I forgot to add, the Omega 3 is supposed to have a similar effect to Ritalin, but without the side effects.
  3. My brother has epilepsy, and he takes Eye Q. It is just fish oil, and doesn't react with other meds.
  4. My son has been gluten free for 4 years now. Everytime he inadvertantly has gluten, or even plays with playdough, the hyperactivity and aggression start within minutes. It takes 3 weeks to get back to some sort of normality. I've never heard of these enzymes. What do they do? How do they work?
  5. My son has Asperger Syndrome, plus ADHD, and is incredibly hyperactive. I tried him on Efalex for 4 months with no effect, but then read up about the different levels of EPA/DHA etc in the oils. I then tried Eye Q, and he's now been on it for 3 years. He is visibly calmer, and his concentration improved. We have had no sleepless nights with it at all. It doesn't seem to affect him at night. He takes 3 capsules in the morning, and 3 in the evening. I get them in Boots on 3 for 2. I read something recently about Omega 6 and 9 being needed as well as 3. Has anyone else come across this?
  6. We are lucky that our school is like fort knox. There is one entrance to the school office, but no one can get round to the playground during the day, and there is a 8 ft fence around. My son is not allowed out at all at lunch time. They used to keep him in the reception playground as he couldn't cope in the big play ground, but now he is in year 2, he's too big. The argument our school have is that my son cannot calm down again to concentrate in class after having the free reign of the playground, so his 1:1 supervision is inside the school. I would like to see him out playing for at least 10 minutes, and the teacher suggested he goes out for 10 minutes before his lunch when the playground is empty, and take 2 friends with him. The head has said no as his 1:1 is at lunch. I guess we have to battle for what we want to achieve for our kids. I strongly believe that gates should be locked for the safety of all children, and an adult should stand by any open gates at ALL times to prevent unauthorised entry, as well as prevent any kids leaving. If they are following health and safety protocol, this shouldn't be a problem.
  7. I've just ordered mine too. Didn't even think about it until I saw this thread. What a godsend it will be to have one of these. My son refuses to go into the ladies, and spends about 20 minutes doing goodness knows what in the mens. I worry about what is happening to him in there until he comes back out. In public places, especially the city, you never know what kind of shady characters could be waiting in there for our kids.
  8. I think you can still claim, but they have to meet the other criteria.
  9. Glad you found the page on the Autism web site. That is the one I am going to use to apply for my son. My son also is scared of dogs, cars, and even more so of busses and lorries. He will run as fast as he can in the opposite direction, and cower until they have gone. This could mean he would run across the road. There are times when I really need a disabled bay with him. There are also times when I wouldn't use it. Having a badge doesn't mean I would always use it, it would mean that it was there when I needed it. No one should feel guilty for applying. They don't give them out lightly.
