    im eating too much

Another fan of the Paul McKenna - I dont like the word 'thin' which put me off to begin with and I cant say I've dropped 3 stone or been transformed - but gradually he is making my attitude to food more healthy (well he isnt, I am, but you know what I mean!) I'm struggling too at the moment - a close friend has asked me to be a bridesmaid, and though I'm honoured I'm also in my late 30's and a size 18......! It's not going to be a sight Trinny and Suzannah would approve of, I'm sure
  2. Hi Tina, welcome to the gang!
  3. Another good book is 'The out of synch child' - it has some really useful tables to help you gauge what a childs sensory needs are. The book helped me make sense of maybe 90 per cent of my 2.5 year olds behaviours and obsessions within a few hours reading. Do let us know where you'll be published and when, cant wait!
  4. I'll be easy to spot, I'm always the most bewildered looking person in any room! It's a good idea to try and meet each other - I might put a sticker on saying MumTee or Krism or something? I'll never get round to buying a rose(!), what about a leek...?! I'd be interested in the Eastleigh do too.
  5. Just found out there's an autism awareness day is Southampton on Thursday 16th Feb if anyone's interested. Guest speakers include Sarah Newman who wrote 'Small Steps Forward' and Ros Blackburn - an able adult with autism. There are still tickets available. Oh, and theres a creche if needed. kRISM Island discs.

makes me cry- Nothing else matters (metallica) gets me dancing - I like to move it move it (dont know who did it but its on the Madagascar film that I have to watch 58 times a day) brings back memories- its raining men (girls nights out long ago) all time favourite- Guns N Roses but it has to be 'best of' because I like to many (and dont care!) hate to admit it- ok so I've got an Enya album.....doesnt make me a bad person!
  8. Glad to hear things are getting better for you. A few more of these <'> <'> <'> <'>
  9. If you go to your gp/nurse you can get a script for the stuff that makes the childs arm numb (thats a laugh because you have to put it on an hour before and wrap it in clingfilm on both arms) - I never thought we'd manage it but we did. We also asked to have it done in the paediatrics dept of the hospital so the staff there were used to getting tricky blood tests. Other than that it took hubbie and nurse to hold him but was over in a flash (I was the only person that cried!) Good luck - dont be afraid to phone ahead and check there is someone confident and experienced to take the tests because it makes all the difference
  10. I'm having exactly the same day as you! Am waiting for hubby to get back from work and have the wine ready..... <'> thinking of you
  11. Got dx today - how come I feel so sick even though I knew it was going to happen eventually? For some reason it's taken me by surprise..... I know my boy was the same walking into the appointment as when he walked out, but I felt...strange/sick/giddy. I think my main fear is that he'll never be able to communicate with me at all - I suppose because I need some reassurance that I'm getting things right for him - and only he can tell me. And then again I feel kind of privileged to have such a special boy... And then again I feel terrified that I'm not up to the job.. And I'm worried about the monumental battle ahead to get him what he needs and deserves... I need hugs....!

    Diagnosis

Just a quickie question.... my son is coming up for 3 and is displaying all the signs of classic autism. So far hubbie and I have been chasing a dx because we feel it will help us access all the help and support he will need - however, health professionals keep saying in different ways that not all parents want a diagnosis am I being naive? Is there a downside to getting a dx that I dont know about?
  16. I find family history fascinating too - the best present I ever got was a book from my nan, she got frustrated with everyone looking at the male lines (we have some sportsmen going back) so decided to investigate the female line including everything she knew about her relatives and her story of being evacuated during the war - she gave a copy to all her grandchildren and I'm hoping this will now turn into a family tradition as its just so special -
  17. Thanks!! You're a star - I was looking for something after a visit to the OT so I'll give her the details too!
  18. Cripes! My brain melted halfway through - will print and read - thanks Carole! DO you know when the results of your trial will be available?
  19. Hi all, I'm interested to get some understanding of why my little boy (non-verbal ASD) isnt interested in opening presents - can anyone with or without an ASD shed any light on what his experience of being given a present to open might be? I dont know if its because he doesnt like wrapping paper, surprises, if its something to do with object permanence, just because people are watching?......or something else entirely - If there's a better way to give him new things I'd like to try Thanks in advance,
  20. I'm struggling with this as well at the mo - my boy's eaten nothing but chicken dippers (yuk) - sometimes just the coating, an occasional apple, toast and cereal for weeks and then last night ate heaps of broccoli and roasties out of the blue - I nearly cried.
  21. I googled autism forum, this was the first one I looked at and I've never felt the need to go anywhere else! It was a friend of mine who suggested I look for a forum but I'd never been on one before. If I hadnt known about forums I would have probably googled 'autism help advice' without really knowing what I was looking for?
