  1. After review the thread has been re-opened. Please be respectful of each others opinions - we're all on the same side here
  2. It's not broken - we just don't have full access to the admin side, but I'll email Lufty about it
  3. If you could explain more clearly what you mean by participation - as in what information you hope to get from asking questions.
  4. While it's great that you are so passionate about what you believe in - it's dangerous to promote the idea that people with ASD are the next stage of human evolution. It's not us and them - it's all of us as we are ALL human.
  5. Hi Adam, Could you pm one of the mods before you post links to things so we can check it out first? Cheers.
  6. Contact Prospects at the National Autistic Society - I am sure there is a disability grant for startups! Failing that - give your local business gateway a call
  7. How long ago did you quit? You have a 3 month limit in which you can apply to take them to tribunal. You also will need an advocate if you are having problems representing yourself. 08457 474747 - that's the number for ACAS who will be able to advise you for free.
  8. Lightwing12star - First of all welcome! Please take this as constructive criticism from people who actually have the disability you are learning about. I really don't think you have a proper understanding of the disability. Aspergers is a form of Autism. Also under the new definition, Aspergers has now been absorbed into the diagnosis of Autism. So it might be an idea to state that you are looking for people with a historical diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome only. Also, you may want to look at rewording your introduction to the survey. It should use clear, unambiguous language. It also would have been preferable if you had emailed the moderators first before posting this so we could help make sure you get the best out of us here in the forum
  9. We're all human - skin colour should never come into it.
  10. It might be an idea to find some way for him to join a social group , or find a new hobby that he can excel at - quite often acting out means something is amiss that can't be vocalised. I would also suggest Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - may help him channel his anger.
  11. Canopus, I really hope you are being sarcastic.
  12. Sounds like a project for you to tackle
  13. I don't think any of the parents of people with ASD will have tried psychedelics for their kids - can't speak for any other aspies other than myself, but I think hallucinogens are a bad idea. People with ASD tend to have stronger anxiety and less coping skills when it comes to drugs other than maybe weed - I wouldn't recommend it.
  14. Well, I'm not a parent of someone with AS. I have AS, and know a couple of people through my baking circles who are on the spectrum, and are Asian.
  15. I would suspect that there are people of all races with varying form of AS - I just think the majority of study has been in Europe as you say.
  16. Nope. Really you have to decide what you are actually going to use it for, and then base your decision on what meets those needs.
  17. It might be worth looking into funding for support worker to help him in school. What also would be useful is to actually find out why he is having these meltdowns. They happen for a reason - so the school should be helping you with this. Getting someone from your LA or local CAMHS to observe him and his surroundings etc might pinpoint it. It could be the constant changes to his routines at school, over stimulus from other pupils, it could even be something as simple as the lighting setting off sensory overloads. They need to help.
  18. You can sue the school for not making the appropriate reasonable adjustments for his ASD and having him detained without your approval/knowledge. You should seek legal advice about this.
  19. Gina - I don't think that's the case, at least as far as I am concerned. This forum is lightly moderated, and only so when asked by other members. Everything on here is opinion, conversation and advice - which as far as this mod is concerned, everyone is entitled to regardless of what it is! (as long as it's not breaching the guidelines of course ;p) I can ask the admins about setting up a private area for venting things that members wouldn't be comfortable having the general public see (which is an excellent idea) - I know other forums can do it as they have similar software - it may be a case of tech skills and how much of them the admins have! Post what you like on here, but as with other forums - for now it's open to the public to view(if they know where we are), just be careful of what personal identifying details you do post - pretty much internet safety etiquette
  20. Hi there - it would be good if you contact the mods or admins if you want to let people know about your asd friendly events so we can make sure they get seen in the right place
  21. Scumble, do you have an issue with NT's? I ask as it seems to be a recurring point you make in posts. I can understand resentment sometimes - but it creates an unrealistic viewpoint if built up over time. Educating and raising awareness when you can is a good way to break down what you might perceive as barriers. There won't always be the opportunity to do that obviously, but accentuating the positive might work out better than assuming no one understands. Personally I think there shouldn't be 'them and us' - we're all human aren't we?
  22. Big can of very messy worms that one.
