  1. Hi Brenda .. we are in a similar situation, my son was diagnosed in August with AS but he is passive, no behavioural problems. We are currently trying to secure some funding so he can have support within the classroom but the issue of a statement has never come up. I have spoken to his class teacher today who has informed me that the TA that normally works within the classroom has been off for over 2 weeks and that my son has been struggling .. primarily to record things when he is told. Feel very frustrated at the moment, just don't know what to do for the best. Is your son receiving any support at the moment? Has anyone spoken to you about statementing and when if at all this may happen? Best of luck Brenda, I hope that you get the answers that you need but to let you know that you are not alone. Sam
  2. Hi Claire, welcome to the forum, I am in Cheshire so not too far from you. I have a 7 year old who is yet to be diagnosed. Best wishes, Sam
  3. Thank you all so so much for your advice and support. We have a second appointment with the consultant on Monday at the hospital so hopefully he will take things more seriously on the back of this report. Thanks again Sam
  4. Hi Julie, welcome to the forum. I am Sam and have a 7 year old son who is currently undergoing the process of diagnosis, I also have a 5 year old daughter. We are currently in the north west. Nice to meet you, this is a fantastic place for all kinds of help, information and support. Best wishes Sam
  5. hi everyone, My 7 year old son has just been observed in class by our local Autism Support Team. He doesn't have a diagnosis and as yet I am unsure of whether he has AS or ADD. The report states some of the following and I wonder if any one has any input: He said that T was very passive, he could not interact with any of the other children in his class without encouragement from the teacher, he said that T struck him as a boy with some kind of Social and Communication difficulties, he has sensory issues as he spent a lot of time with his hood up, rocking and tapping is teeth with his finger. He has suggested the use of finger tangles which I have not heard of. He also said that T needs careful adult direction to help him use his visual aids, and he may benefit from a separate workstation if he becomes too distracted or passive. If anyone has any similar experiences or any idea what all this means I would be really grateful. We have heard nothing from the school since we got a copy of this report and I am dreading him going back to a classroom environment in September that he clearly cannot function in, and moving into juniors too, we know that he needs support but have no idea whether we are going to get it and how long it may take .. Thanks so much Sam
  6. Hi Max's Mum Just to let you know that we are really struggling with sleep here too. My son is almost 7 and this has been a problem for a while .. he says that he is worried about bad dreams and monsters .. I think that things play on his mind an awful lot .. he spends a lot of his time memorising things in bed .. stories, adverts, things that he has seen on tv and times tables. I don't think that his brain ever stops. I had never heard of melatonin, I would definitely try this. I think that maybe his concentration and attitude problems may be better if has was'nt so short of sleep. Good luck, I really hope that things get better soon xxx
  7. Hi Really nice to meet you, I have a 6 year old in a very similar situation. He hasn't been diagnosed yet but has an IEP at school and has time out of the class to do social games. Best of luck with everything. I feel the same way that I want him to be happy and fulfilled and make things a bit easier for him. Sam
  8. We have got an appt at the local hospital Tabby Cat - 24th Feb ... Yikes! xx
  9. Thanks for that, I have to agree, I was sure that there would be someone out there who was going through the same as me! Can't tell you how relieved I am!! I am really grateful for the support. Thanks for the info about the appointment, we are in the North West, I don't have any knowledge of services up here. I hope that you get something through quicker than July. xx
  10. Hi, nice to meet you. We are just starting the ball rolling with a diagnosis of Aspergers for our 6yr old son too. We have just had an appt with the GP who has referred us to a community pead, have no idea how long it will take for an appt to come through. He has been on an IEP at school since November because of his social and communication issues. Great to meet someone at the same stage, best of luck with everything, xx

    Hi new member

Thank you so much all of you. We are back from the GP, we made a list of our concerns and took the IEP along too. She feels there is a case for referral and is going to contact the community peadiatrician (sp??!) on our behalf. I will keep you posted on our progress. I feel a mixture of sadness and relief to be honest. I just want to be able to get out son the help that he needs so that he can flourish and be happy. Thanks again
  13. Hello everyone, I have just joined this site and thought I would introduce myself. I have a 6 year old son who I think has Aspergers. The school have now noticed too. He has been on an IEP for his social issues and concentration problems for 3 months and has made no improvement. We have now decided to go to our GP for a referral and to get him a formal diagnosis. I am worried about the appointment tomorrow and worried that he won't get a referral, any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you all and I look forward to getting to know you over the coming months Tomsmum
