I'm Anj, someone left a message on my site suggesting I come and have a look at this new forum. It's great to see another UK link . And wonderful to see someone who is not directly affected by their own family taking an interest and the time to find out more about Asperger's/autism.
My son Kyle is nearly 18, he has Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD. He went through main stream school the hard way as he was not diagnosed until he was 13. I just wanted to give some hope to anyone trying to cope with a new diagnosis. We were told that out son was unteachable and would never make it through school, would never be able to work, would never be able to make it in the big wide world. We did have a few rough patches at school but I am pleased to say, he sat and passed his GCSE's and that he is now a confident young man of the world. He is working full time, making friends and improving his social skills all the time. He is a bright, intelligent and happy young man who has learnt to celebrate his differences rather than fight against them.
