  1. Hallo! My name is Andreas, and I am 43 years old. Accidentally, I came across the idea about Asperger's Syndrome (AS) when I found myself at a dramaturgic rehearsal as a member of an opera choir. I was unable to learn to dance, and became curious. My mother told me that I probably could suffer from AS. From now on, I began to read on the internet about it. The more I read, the more assured I became. Several diagnostic tests on the internet followed, all indicating the same; I probably had it. Later on, I asked for assessment as to AS at the local autism center. Recently the assessment was finished, and today I have the diagnosis formally stated. My strengths are music and foreign languages; I love to sing. I sing in two choirs and am also taking singing lessons. I play the classical guitar. As to languages, I express myself well in english, french and italian. Socially I do not grasp much of what is going on between people. As to interaction, I observe rather than participate. As to AS, I like to think about all the positive aspects of it. I lead a very good life. To know I had AS was indeed a relief as it explains so well my communication problems. I am very glad to be on this forum!
  2. I do not know if I perhaps occasionally am being overwhelmed by something that may be like a panic attack. It always hurts me in the middle of the night; thoughts of death. As I can not in any way accept the incredible fact that mankind's physical life once will disappear, I strongfully try to put these terrifying thoughts away. For the most part, I succeed in putting them away of my consciousness by means of physically upraising myself from my bed and putting on the lights in order to be concerned with another thoughts. Most often, this procedure is beneficial for me in order to put matters right.
  3. I am sure you will obtain good results as to your following driving lessons. Good luck!

This story made me laugh! Remember having thought of similar when I was at his age...
  6. Hello! I have many recordings of Andrs Segovia, the legendary spanish Maestro (1893 Linares - 1987 Madrid); I am particularly interested in Segovia recordings, first and foremost regarding 1) Time of recordings, i.e. recording years, month and day 2) Maestro's interpretations, which move me a lot. I also have some recordings of John Williams Julian Bream's recordings are also part of my collection. I was lucky to attend a concert featuring John Williams in Norway. For me it was a wonderful evening I will never forget. Andreas

  8. Barefoot Wend, After some 40 years of wondering what is is with me (I also recall in childhood I was different) to know it is Asperger's is a tremendous relief. Thus I now understand myself much more profoundly and, best of all, I am more glad!
  9. I sing tenor, and 2nd tenor in the male choir. Occasionally I also sing the baryton part; I did it in Buxtehude's "Magnificat"; in this work there is a baryton sequence, to me a very elegant one that I love to sing. Yes, although I have sung in choir for only a few years, I often hear that choirs are short of tenors. Basses seem to be easier to find, and also in our mixed choir, the lack of tenors is a problem; of a total of forty-four choir members, there are eleven men and only three tenors! Especially 1st tenors seems to be difficult to get. It must have been a great experience for your husband to sing the St. Matthew's Passion of Bach! In order to do so, I think he must be very well trained, as I assume this work is very difficult to sing. If I ever will have the occasion to sing it, I surely will look enormously forward to it. Once our mixed choir has done "O Sing unto the Lord" by Henry Purcell. To me this work was fantastic. Certainly, Purcell is one of my favourite composers from the baroque period. We have also done "Magnificat" by Buxtehude and a Bach cantata. Furthermore, we often perform works by the norwegian church music composer Egil Hovland. Once we sung four of his motets in Nidarosdomen of Trondheim, it was a fantastic experience to sing in this cathedral from the medieval age. Andreas
  10. Classical music helps a great deal mentally if I am stressed, as it puts away negative thoughts and lets me concentrate solely on the music. Mozart's Requiem appeals much to me; I should have liked to attend a concert including this work. Tschaikovskij is also a composer whose music appeals to me. Yesterday I heard Bach's Matthew's Passion BWV 244. It was a great experience to hear it live. Music means a lot to me; I am member of a mixed choir singing classical music and a male choir. In addition I play the classical guitar, something I can do as long as I live. At home I have many LP's with classical music ranging from gregorian chant to contemporary music. Every evening I listen to music; tonight it was from Bach's Matthew's Passion BWV 244, a work of which I have three different recordings. Apart from the music, I like to express myself in foreign languages.
  11. Hello! Are you interested in classical music? Classical music is one of my two special interests. I am particularly interested in discographies of numerous interpreters, e.g. the legendary classical guitarist Andrs Segovia. I am happy to hear from you! Best regards, Andreas
  12. As to the issue, I am now 43 and have separation anxiety as long as I can recall. This makes me very reluctant to departures, being unwilling to leave when departure day comes. Last summer, in August, everything was ready; I had organized for myself a complete small journey featuring the Coastal steamer [Hurtigruten] along the norwegian coast. But at departure day I cancelled everything and stayed at home.
  13. Hallo Kathryn! Thanks a lot. I am glad to participate on your forum. In these days I am being assessed for asd-diagnosis, I look forward to the result. I am happy, 43 years old and my interests are foreign languages and classical music. Best wishes, Andreas
  14. Hallo! To read your letter was, to a considerable extent, to read about oneself! I can easily recognize a lot as to my own appearance and behavoural traits. I have always felt being different as I always have problems in fitting in socially, being more of an observer and not a participant regarding social interaction. Many years ago I wanted treatment in order to change behaviour and be able to socialize. Though, my psychologist did not agree, asking me to be exactly as I am. Years went, and the process of slowly accepting his words began to shape in my mind. Today, after many years, his recommendation appears to me like a gift; he has let me be like I am, to be myself and has learnt me to accept myself. I must admit that I needed a considerable time to change my attention from wanting to be as the "neurotypical ones" to accepting myself being a bit different. Here also comes a certain amount of criticism of society producing "normal" individuals. I am proud of being as I am. For me, it is a gift to be accurate and correct in all one's matters. I am pedantic, meticolous, old-fashioned, talking like a professor, 43 years old, and in these days I am getting assessed for asperger syndrome. In light of your words, we seem to be alike to a considerable extent. Best wishes, Andreas
