    Dyspraxia

I am a 15 year old with severe dyspraxia. I had OT and PT. at first I had PT, ball skills and ot every day for aabout 1/2 an hyour untill year 7. then it was 20mins a week, and then in year 9 we stopped, as it does have a point where you can't get any better. I am on the waiting list for ot. I have severe trouble with PE too. The thing is with dyspraxia is that you often get hypotonia with it, which i have, and it makes my legs really weak and they tire easily. I am also a very slow runner. I have next to no co-ordination and spatial awareness, and my balance is very poor. Its so bad that both the we and the school agree that trying to teach me normal sports is a waste of time, so every pe lesson i go to the fittness suite for 1 to 1 sessions. I leanrt to ride my bike when i was about 9, whereas my nt brother lleaarnt when he was nearly 4! Before i got my sessions, our form were taught javilin, and i ended up throwing it less than a inch to a teachers toe, which the teachers had to give me a foam rocket shape to use after that, as it was the only saffe way for me to participate! The best spoirts i could recommend are the one that don't have a team attitiude and are fun, and within his level, so he has a sense of acheivement. Trampiling, table tennis (not playing by the rules but just hitting it to eachother), horse riding (fantastic if you join a riding for the disabled group!, i did it until i was about 9 as i became quite badly allergic to the horses and every week it got worse (huge bummer!). swimming, even if its just messing about going underwater. ball skills, dog walking. Hope this helps!

  7. I wonder whether she would still spurt out this rubbish if HER children were on the spectrum? And did you get a reply from the email? (sorry to be incredibly nosy but could we have a peek?
  8. There is also the dyspraxic teens forum.... http://www.dyspraxicteens.org.uk Its mainly dyspraxia based but we do have a few aspies too, and have a very supportive community, who are dealing with many shades of the 'umbrella' including: dyspraxia/dyslexia/AS/dyscalia/ADHD/OCD/ADD/PDD-NOS and quite a few others...we don't bite, honest!
  9. Dyspraxia? Its very similar to As so might be worth a look...
  10. I have severe dyspraxia and learnt how to ride without stablelisers at about 10. I am very unsure whether i would be able to drive... *legoland- caused mini gridlocks *wicksteed park- got confused with breaks and accerlarator, and rammed straight into somone else. If i did, the first 3 things i would do would be put in a GPRS sat nav system ,laser sso i dont get too lost, sensors all round it so i dont crash into anything, and i would get a red stop button to be the breaks!

  14. You could try green and blacks, a bit expenisive but they are organic so the risk of her 'getting in a mess' slightly decreases....and tastier too!

  17. Hi there! I am 15 years old, and I have severe dyspraxia, which causes me physical, co-ordination, sensory, memory, handwriting and navigation problems. I currently have a statement for 12 support hours a week, my own laptop (i type 4x faster than i write, as i am extremly slow at writing, at less than 15 words per min.) and various smaller allowences. I was wondering, when i transfer to college (hoping to study IT, Art, and Product Design), and university (IT) does this statement stick with me? Thanks to anyone who replys.
  18. I'm not using it, but would really like to!
  19. I'm also mildy to moderately allergic to an antibiotic (not penicillin!) which i cant remember the name of, dogs, cats, dust, grass, pollen and horses!
  20. Do you have anything with bluetooth in your house? If yes, some types will interfere with your wireless connection, like my brothers mobile headset does.
  21. Are you sverly allergic to anything, as well as having a ASD? I have severe dyspraxia and a anaphylatic nut allergy (my throat closes if i eat the tiniest trace of a nut, plus i have severe skin reactions from touching them) and have to carry epis with me everywhere i go.
