  1. It varies on area slightly for the criteria. as it stands, in Leicester I am eligible for one and I might get one, why i didn't sooner I do not know, I find it quite handy when i have one of my bad days where nothing makes sense and I have zero percent awareness of any kind, which leaves me in a similar position to you SG. I should be fine getting a driving license, I can't see me getting denied one, and many people have said that to me including a former driving instructor (who is sadly no longer with us, he was a good friend). i will most likely get one for convenience sake.... also the idiots in Leicester have put bus fares up again..... grr...
  2. you could have got away with some proper ear defenders, like the kind the tank drivers use... expensive mind, but they are handy! it's interesting to see the difference in sensitivity to different thing between people with asperger's and autism, I find it fascinating. It is truly weird because loud noises seldom bother me these days at all, I go to rock gigs, I'm in a very loud band and I love jet aircraft and the only thing sound wise that bothers me is the sirens on ruddy ambulances!!!! he might cope with it when he's older?? my cousins have both been like that with B being a lot better with noises over the last two years (he's now 11) and G is alright but could be better if you get me (he's 17)
  3. been a while since i last logged in. what a weird time I'v had... left college, got too much for me, kids bullying me, then i would go through the correct channels, there would be tellings off and then the same would happen again, and again..... diagnosed with depression in january, can't remember if i told you lot or not, anyway idiot here decides not to take them mid-july, things went completely off the scale and I nearly ended up doing aggressive things I wouldn't normally do!!! needless to say I went back on the tablets!! looking for more work, still have the bar job, I nearly lost it as the boss was aggressive to me on the phone over a shift I hadn't turned up for (which i forgot about!), got verbal warning for 'attendance' and walked away scott free, then transpires that they didn't have a clue what Asperger's was!!!! yet i gave them ample notice and descriptions on the ruddy application form! anyway things are running smoother now, they know how to understand me now, which helps an awful lot. I don't understand myself half the time! LOL! still single, which i find really annoying, I do not know if other aspie's find this a problem like i do? (would be interesting to find out) left my old bands behind and joined a new one, with my former bass player, we have been going on non stop doing two practices a week and we are still hungry for lots more having tremendous fun and loving every minute of it, I have also been made a lead guitarist in the process, I didn't know my playing was that good in all honesty!! and that's me upto speed, thought i would just do it as one big thread thingy so its out the way and done with, lol. hope you lot are well and I hope the regulars are still about
  4. doesn't matter where i look, it seems that Autism related dogs are mostly for 3-10 year olds. Is it different for university applicants then? or are there more options? also Support Dogs are no longer taking applications due to the amount they recieved!!! (not surprising really)
  5. Ahh thanks for the information, right my charity hunt goes on! lol edit: looked at dogs for the disbaled but they dont mention asperger's adults whcih seems interesting.... or autistic one for that matter....
  6. oh curse, lancashire? that is a long way to run!
  7. I'll chip into this. Read the news story on it, instead of many pages of the report Basically, I think its a pretty bad situation. We are scrapping individual tailored statements for one big overall assessment. Surely this is making the situation worse regarding the individual support required for each individual? Also my main criticism is, again, the government has failed to explain and set guidelines as to What SEN covers. I think the bracket is far too widely used, even kids on the Alternative curriculum (i mean like rough kids who have to go school but are real pain in the necks...) are classified under the SEN label and support, which to me, is unessesary by all costs. Another Joke about it is the 'Gifted and Talented' stuff, cause that comes out of the SEN budget too, which to me, Is unessesary, However, Govt. would say they do that for the specialised lessons to cope with their 'advanced intelligence' to me, i still think its draining the SEn budget for those who really need it. I know my points are fragmented... but still... In the Daily mail today (date for reference is 09/3/11) there was an article on the issue and it says, that it is planned that there will be a reclassification of what the SEN bracket covers. (thanks to my mum for this! and my gran for the newspaper!) the govt. is saying that all children, students, with a diagnosis will be classified as SEN, However, it is then down to the local authorities to give out SEN statements, and as we know, that in itself is the big challenge as they haven't been giving out statements. If the government enforces regualtions to make them give the statements out then thats most of the issue solved, If this isn't done then it is just a CON-LIB cost cutting measure (which is what I am expecting to be the case, following all other reforms of similar natures)
  8. hey all, Been a while since I last posted but had a few issues RE: depression over a month or two and have been feeling wierd hence my life is all over the place..... anyway, I have read up on these services dogs for asperger's people but I feel that the information I mostly find regards American and canadian laws thereby giving different view to how it would be in the UK. so I will number the questions for ease and ease to reply 1. What exactly does a service dog do and what classifies as a service dog within the UK? 2. can the criteria be applied to Asperger's people 2b. what exactly can a service dog can and cannot do for an asperger's person? 3. is this funded from other sources? or do the dogs have to be paid for personally? I.e. can there be funding which can be applied for this purpose? 4. any of our forum members have service dogs? Just wondering as i heard about it being known and i googled it up as I tried to get a clearer picture of this sort of thing..... I had wondered if one would be applicable to me, but considering i have struggled to attain information regarding the dogs in the UK i find it hard to get a picture of what the reality is on the topic. all contributions welcome and thanks in advance Hope you are all well, Bruce x P.S. anyone who dare say 'google is your friend' will be persistantly poked with a stick.
  9. True but for the most part I think it effects Physical disabled people
  10. this WILL cause an uprise While this may not affest ASD's (???) in most respects, I daresay we all know somebody who requires this money in order to pay for care, I know at least two people, one is my gran, and anothers is a good friend of mine and is also my mate's Uncle. is it me or does this government seem to have made a harsh one with this one? I knew there were going to be cutbacks regarding Disabilities as a whole but isn't this a step too far????
  11. No I spoke to him, at the beginning I go 'go on Lee get out' and Lee is our tutor, And the Guitarist hates the bloke with a passion at the moment, cause the tutors are picking on my guitarist for this and that, when he has to travel 35 miles just to get there!!! me and the guitarist have now decided that we are going to grass up the others for being late and stuff, one girl called in Ill when she wasn't in order to go to France with her family the other week, not only breaching colllege terms but also an assessment for her band. so that's the hand gesture sorted... lol Baddad, thanks for the comments and video I know what you mean with the Take That songs!!! I just post it so people can watch it if they fancy
  12. Can I add, when I posted last night I realised that the guitarist was doing a rude Gesture... So sorry If that has offended people, so Just in case you want to watch it, thats at the beginning, I think the Guitarist was having a go at the teacher behind his back (bit of a sour note for our band)
  13. So here's VooDoo MaGiK once more this time with a rough version along with outtakes of 'The Passenger', a song originally by Iggy Pop and the Stooges. I was disappointed as I was told to keep my T- Shirt on... shame... I wanted to show the Iggy within haha! I am singing this time, normal vocalist was off and away this week. I do tryand pose a little bit near the end, and Although i think it does look good i do find it funny! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_LMBllU6KE&feature=player_embedded here it is and enjoy

    Snow!

Leicester has had snow all day with a few bits tonight... Has turned Everything to Ice, absolute nightmare, Dad got home and had to park his car on the nearest main road due to side roads being way too icy. We have even had Mercedes Sprinter vans (they are quite large vehicles) Bombing up and down.... hope to god there wasn't anyone going towards them! Buses were fun, as many more people than usual were using them (luckily due to my humain error of setting my clock too fast, i missed the rush of the last of the summer wine cast...) Walking down my own street is currently easier than walking through town!!!! everything has got slapstick slippy so i nearly went heads over with the guitar on monday (that would have hurt...) luckily today i didn't need my faithful shred stick! anyway, I am enjoying the sight of it and have not yet broken anything (damn I have now cursed myself, LOL) hopefully dad won't slide this year and smach the drivers' side headlight from a crash at 2mph while skidding.....
  15. yeah im with Baddad It didn't do many favours for me because it stereotyped the whole thing of Autism and Asperger's which i wasnt happy about....
  16. 1) Absolutely not by all costs, but if you cannot find anything else and need it as a last resort then so use it. 2)by all means yes. also try and get to know the kid's learning style more, is he hand's on or all for visual or other ways? if he's hands on try to incirporate that into your lesson(s) with him. this sort of crosses with No.3 because if the kid is a hands on learner but not a great group work guy the hands on might encourage the kid if others are participating causing that 'that's interesting' type thought to run through his mind. 3) yes and no, depends on the individual, although IMO i am a completely different kettle of fish to many other AS's (as I am Very flexible and Love group work). sometimes ASD's want more space on a bad day and don't want to intereact with others but some, like me, even if i have a bad day, I still want to work as a group. so yes by all means plan some alternatives just in case, however, keep open minded, watch the kid more see how he reacts and if it doesn't seem to mould at the start or you can 'read' what he is thinking then go to plan B by all means. 4) Like I'v said try to get to know the Kid, talk to the SENCo, even try and get some Gen up from the other staff if you can, some of his other teachers may know how to approach him and his learning style so its worth a try. Also be wary if he is suseptable to change (I dare say he will be) so it might be worth slowly engaging with him more and more maybe the odd classroom convo about the work and just the 'Hi' in the corridor, this would hopefully get him to pick up that you are a friendly person and you don't bite, which also helps. I have always had some form of friendly understand working relationship with teaching staff because they have taken the time to get to know me as a person, which helps in times of need and also If I ever need help because after a while, you get to see how a kid reacts with certain things and where they also struggle. Hopefully that's of use to you Bruce x
  17. says the server isn't working here..... edit: what the .... tthe links are working now... what the hell?
  18. Hey yeah that's a good idea actually, I hadn't thought of that! thanks
  19. Likely tbh.... knowing the manager he probably got mixed up, who knows...
  20. true.... I'll casually raise it with the manager....
  21. I just put on the job application form i had asperger's syndrome and stated the important bits etc. then they say ADD??? Tally, it does matter in that place... no wonder i fell out with a supervisor on the other bar and no wonder she misunderstood me.
  22. I remember them saying and telling the relevent people that i have ADD???? Is this the same as AS because tbh i am completely bricking myself cause i think they have got the wrong disability..... If it is wrong Can somebody please explain the difference to me cause it will probably make more sense from one of you guys!!
  23. Firstly, Don't panic! worst thing to do, I know it's hard not to but honestly, panicking gets you more in a tiswas! Can I ask If your diagnosis application/routine is going in for just ADHD? because it may be worth asking the GP if it's possible to start thr Diagnosis procedure for autism/asperger's syndrome? Also can I ask how good your son's speach is and whether there are any problems or he was a late starter with talking. Many thanks and the other guys and gals' will help too, your in good hands, together we have god knows how many years experiance with stuff relating to ASD and AS. Bruce.
  24. I suffered this for a while when I was really young but due to the services i got in the Mid 90's (and please remember chap, that the research into AS and Autism was only translated into total comprehensible english around 1990) I can now speak and most of the time emphasise the correct things with emotion etc. However sometimes i can still make mistakes and make things sound hurtful when not intended to by my tone of voice. So yeah all AS's suffer from this in some form or way but it affects different people in different ways
