I thought Autism week is in April!

Well done on being awarded DLA. I just got letter back today turning my son down, they say he doesn't meet the criteria. I would like them to come and live with us even for a day and they would see that he needs a lot more care than other 9 year olds. I am not going to rant, well done to you. I realise that with the cost of nappies etc the award will mean a lot.

Hi everyone, my 9 yr old son has an AS diagnosis and as he is starting to say that he is different from the others in the family I was thinking that maybe now would be a good time to talk to him. When he was diagnosed the doctor suggested that age 11 would be a good age to tell him but I think that he realises there is something. Can anyone share with me how they spoke to their children and how they phrased it. Am worried as my child is very anxious. Thanks for any advice given.

My 9 year old son who has AS is beginning to get very cross at bedtime, saying he hates going to bed. We have tried wind down routines but he gets worked up into a state at bedtime, although when he sleeps he will sleep all night. Any suggestions.

My son has AS and we were advised to tell him when he is changing schools. He is currently in P.5 and is very intelligent although he does not think there is anything wrong with him other than the fact that he loses his temper more than others. I think I will wait another while as he could get a shock. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Hi, My son who is 9 was dx last week with AS. Although I would consider him a mild case I thought it better to be diagnosed as he sometimes takes terrible temper tantrums in class if things don't go his way. His Principal agreed and advised us to seek the diagnosis so that when he changes school in a few years time it will be there in writing so can give a reason for his outbursts. Awaiting his report. Will make interesting reading. Hope that helps.

Hi there, I'm also new. My 9 yr old son was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome last week. It didn't come as a big shock as suspected it for a while and as I work with a 11 yr old who has AS I could identify many similarities between them. Nice to be able to use this forum for advice from the more experienced users.
