  1. Hi my son has always been terribly hot during the night even in the winter! He was always wet with sweat, could never wear p.j's and had to have a towel under him to soak it up!! Well my mum suffers from hot flushes and told me about something that helped her called a chillow - dont ask me how it works but its basically a pillow with water inside that goes into your pillow case and keeps you cool all through the night. Well I thought I'll give it a go, bought one and it is amazing! My son wears p.j's now and doesnt sweat during the night and has also stopped waking up smelling all sweaty!! It was made originally for menopausal women but i think they advertise them for all sorts of problems now. www.chillow.co.uk hope this may be of use! Chantel.
  2. Had to laugh when I read this, as my 4 year old son is EXACTLY the same!!! He is soooo obsessed with it too, always wanting it on and getting really upset when it isnt. All he talks about lately is pinky ponks and ninky nonks (the sort of train thingy and plane thingy in the programme!!!) I have been recording episodes of it on sky + box and put it on in times of desparation!! from chantel
  3. hi, I have just been e-mailed a link from my friend about a new programme - Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, Director of the Autism Research Centre (ARC) at Cambridge University and David Lammy, Culture Minister, today launch a novel animation DVD to help young children with autism. It looks like a childrens programme that is supposed to help with dealing with different emotions. You can also get a free copy of the dvd via this website. http://www.24dash.com/education/15088.htm Sorry if already been posted. Chantel
  4. My son had a little jaundice, by the time he had a hospital appointment for it, it had gone. The main problem with him when he was tiny was that he had terribly sensitive skin - to the point where he was hospitalised. He still cant use normal soaps or shampoos now.
  5. Pretty much the same as some of you, my son had hearing test when he was a baby and didnt respond so had a more thorough hearing test at the hospital which was fine. Then when the health visitors grew concerned with his delay in developement they referred him for hearing tests again, which were all fine, a year later he was diagnosed with autism.
  6. Have decided to order it as it is really cheap, so I cant lose really! Thanks for your replies, its a shame there arent many films out with true stories of people affected with ASD, as i think it would raise abit more public awareness of autism.
  7. Hello, I was just wondering if anyone has watched the film Davids Mother - Starring Kirstie Alley. I think its a film about a mother and her relationship with her autistic son. Was contimplating buying it, but not sure whether it is any good or not, dont know if its another one of those hollywood over the top and over dramatised films or whether it is true to life. If anyone has seen it or heard about it, i would be grateful to hear from you! Thankyou, Chantelxx
  8. I have started reading a book "The Autistic Spectrum" by Lorna Wing and that contains alot of interesting information on Bahaviour in babies, and babies with autistic spectrum and the early signs to look for, I thought this might of been an interest to you for your article. Best of luck with it anyway!
  9. I think you are doing a great job - toilet training, as you dont want him to get upset by it and get put off by it all, by making himself constipated. Rainbow queens ideas were fab with the ole prune juice! I wonder if you could get a larger potty for older kids, whether that would help as it isnt too deep and there is no flush with scarey noise! Anyway I think you are doing a fab job and hope things progress, just hang on in there!
  10. Happy Birthday Kieran! Hope you all had a fab time, I am so pleased that it went so well, hope tomorrow is just as good for you!!! I bet the kids are having a wail of a time!!! Take good care Chantelxxx
  11. My son had this test a while ago, and we were all dreading it! My son sat on my lap and the nurse and me tried holding him steady whilst my husband fed him sweeties and the doctor took the blood, it was over in a flash and after the doctor had finished my son stopped screaming and was straight after his dad for more sweeties. He was fine afterwards, it was just a few seconds of screaming whilst the blood was being taken, but i think that was more due to the fact he was being held so still! Dont worry its not as bad as you think it will be.
  12. Hi Rhonda, We live on the Gloucestershire border and are under Gloucestershire LEA too, my son is due to start school in Sept and we are just beginning his statementing to get him in to a special needs school, we are keeping our fingers crossed it all goes ok - and fingers crossed for you too.
  13. Hi, my son is 4 in August and hopefully will be starting special needs school in september, we are just starting the statementing.
  14. My son got his DX last month after 13 months of assesments, I think this is good to get it early as my son is only 3 and a half and we have known there was 'something wrong' for a long time before the assesments started. Now we know what he has and he has a dx we can concentrate on getting the best possible help for him, and i think that the earlier you can start getting that help the more chances my son has got in making alot more progress than he would have had if he hadnt got the diagnosis (if you get what i am trying to say!!). Now he has a DX i have been trying to learn as much as i can about autism and different interventions etc.. Hope this is ok for you, if you need any other help on this feel free to pm me.
  15. I had a practically perfect pregnancy and labour for my daughter who is not autistic. But with my son who is ASD i spotted during pregnancy, was hospitalised with gastro-enterittus (sorry about spelling!), was ill all through pregnancy, felt faint all the time and had alot of swelling. He was 14 days over due and I had him induced, his head come out and it took what felt like a life time for the rest of him to come out!!! He was 9lb 9oz and had jaundice too. I also developed an over-active thyroid which i was told was bought on through pregnancy.
