  1. ITA with everything sammysnake said, that is terrible Harvey (AS) goes to Scouts (he did Beavers and Cubs first) and loves it, there has been the odd problem but the leaders from all the groups have been absolutely brilliant, I've had a couple of phone calls which isn't too bad to say he started Beavers at 6 and he is now 11! He only started Scouts recently and I went in to speak to the leader to make him aware of Harvs AS and was surprised he didn't seem at all bothered and asked no questions, turns out they already have an AS child in the group! The only other thing he does is guitar lessons, we are very very lucky in that the guitar teacher who comes into school is his uncle (well not actually a blood relation uncle but he and my hubby have been friends since babies and may as well be brothers!) he obviously knows all Harvs background and Harvey is very comfortable with him so that does make a huge difference. He has just started playing guitar at music centre too, will be interested to see how it works out, he wasn't very keen to go but gave it a try (his little sister plays violin there so we are down there anyway), we are only 2 weeks in, this isn't his uncle who takes the group so I think he may take a while to settle in.
  2. Thank you, I was thinking around that amount
  3. Usually when we need sitters my parents come over, thing is they live 35 miles away and don't drive so mid week is a bit tricky. Tonight we are going to look around the local high school with Harvey, got my friend's 15 year old girl coming round for a couple of hours to look after the younger too. She has only just started babysitting, I asked her mum who is a friend of mine if she has a rate and she said no, just give her whatever. We are totally clueless!! Anyone have any idea what a reasonable amount is?!
  4. We're watching! We thought the right person got kicked off also, even though hubby had picked his name out in the sweep they did at work lol
  5. That's brilliant, well done Beth
  6. that's brilliant news!!! My Harvey isn't much smaller than me now and only a shoe size less that me, in fact his new ones do fit me, although I def won't be borrowing them!!!!
  7. Harvey has been using it for at least 2 years so he would have been around 9, I'd gone in his room to get his dirty clothes, had a pile of school shirts and they had a bit of a whiff so bought him some deodrant. I get him right guard or sure, the roll on kind (he'd prob spray himself in the eye or something!!). My 8 yo girl hasn't started using it yet.
  8. The diagnosis for our son took about 4 months from when he was first referred although we've had the ed psych involved with him since reception (he just turned 11 a couple of weeks ago), we first had him referred about 18 months ago but only got as far as meeting the mental health worker who wasn't great and didn't even meet him! Fortunately the second time round we got a different mhw and it all went pretty smoothly. Good luck
  9. oh this happened to us!! DS started Beavers as soon as he was old enough, went through to Cubs, neither of which affected curry night as he was home by 8pm after Cubs, unfortunately Scouts doesn't finish until 9.15 so it's usually knocking on for 9.45 by the time I've dropped the other two boys off. When he's been there a while you could see if you could share lifts with someone (if your DS would be ok with this of course), that's what we do so every other week we have curry night, the week I pick up we have to switch it to another night. Someone else has just joined in with our Scout run so should only be 1 in 3 we have to miss now - yay! We just have to have a couple of glasses of wine before curry is eaten, just not the same otherwise.....!!
  10. I believe they are, I've not been there yet as we saw the nurse locally but I am going there on Monday to attend a course on Aspergers so I'll see if there are any leaflets or posters about adults
  11. Hello Nat, welcome to the forum
  12. Hi there, I have no experience of getting a diagnosis as an adult (my 11 yo son was recently diagnosed with AS) but I noticed your location is York, we live just outside York but the nurse we have been seeing to get the diagnosis is from Lime Trees in York and she has been absolutely brilliant, if you get referred to them there is a lot of help available.
  13. My 11 yo loves them too, he's got his younger sister into them also, I am so fed up of listening to the songs now!!
  14. Hi there, I'm from Yorkshire too! Welcome
  15. We just got this book last week (after being recommended it on here!), it is fantastic, my son hasn't read it yet but I think it will help him a lot.
  16. I also ordered Can I tell you about Asperger syndrome and also The Bluebottle Mystery, they arrived this week and I've read them both, they are great!!
  17. I think Peppa is thinking of the same place I am thinking of Creepy Crawlies in York, I've been to kids parties before where all the adults have been going down the big slide there! http://www.creepy-crawlies.co.uk/
  18. Thanks for posting this, I've saved it. My son has only just been diagnosed so obviously not spoken to school about it yet and we really don't have a clue where to start re. statements so this is very helpful
  19. That's brilliant, well done to you both!!
  20. I like the idea of a communication passport, we've had a couple of parents go into school to complain about my son (this was before we received his official diagnosis), his class teacher soon sorted them out though.... I found it very upsetting the first time but now I don't give a stuff what they all think, I am sure we have been gossiped about (we live in a small village so you get that here anyway!). On the other hand I've had some parents who have been really lovely about him.
