  1. I agree with statements made especially nippie sweetie I have just recently been officially assessed and diagnosed with Adult ADHD (inattentive , Hyperactive combined type) with what you have described about your brother of him not being able sit still , racing thoughts sounds like possible ,likelyhood of present adult ADHD ,your brother sounds like he got mental health issues outstanding ? drug abuse common in unresolved conditions such as ASD /ADHD and mental health issues he probably using drugs to 'escape' his issues but actually making his issues expand the other issues you have listed sound ASD personally! sounds like whatever way this is going in ,direction wise sounds like you need REAL advice and help have you tried MIND (mental health charity) XKLX
  2. why do I not put thinking process in before I act upon situation or even ask for general advice off parents ,just jump straight in feet first put my fott right in it! without thinking before hand! then afterwards feel so bad, guilty , when pointed out to me I can see how it is suppose to be! why do find this such challenge ,struggle is it due to impulsivity behind ADHD could this be explanation/reason behind as seem to do this quite bit throughout my life so far! feel so deflated, frustrated and annoyed with myself which does nothing for my self-esteem to be honest! does anyone have this issue at all? I'm struggling to keep up with managing keeping up with fast pace life of ADHD Leaves me feel totally drained! never seem to learn from my past ,old mistakes or advice? feel so wrong putting it due to the ADHD? cant wait to see how medication and coping skills from ADHD & AS team will help me move on forward hopefully so can be more productive like I am slowly doing with AS but still has taken years to do! XKLX
  3. rang the NAS as have new diagnosis of combined adult type ADHD just need some reassurance really and general guidance of where i going with it all abit scared, lost and confusing like when had AS diagnosis - the NAS gave me ADDISS helpline number which tried ringing but just bleeps three times then cuts me off wonder why this is? does anyone else know why this could be happening?! so frustrating and annoying i have an appointment on tuesday 10th december with clinical nurse that referred me for an adult ADHD assessment to help gain more insight & answers yet while waiting still feel so foggy! ;( which makes depressxion & anxiety has increased knock on effect even more so difficult to manage! XKLX
  4. executive functions of multi-tasking at work especially certainly stressful ,choatic ,challenging to manage effectively which increases anxiety and depression further more ... makes me doubt myself even more in job role ... so shakes up low self-esteem not good ;( i rang up ADHD & AS team today to find out where i am for next appointment with clinical nurse and told me tuesday 10th December at 10.30am so hopefully can discuss medication input as affecting my working ability! XKLX
  5. i also can contribute i used to work part time 1 hour a day so 5 hours a week totalled at last job -local nursery working at! now working full -time more responsibilities as well paperwork side speaking to parents doing feedback of routine, now doing 40+ hours a week - just found out few weeks back start of October as well as AS , Dyspraxia , MADD (Mixed Anxiety & Depressive Disorder) i have ADHD too add to my list! never thought working full -time was possible hard challenging work but well worth it and knocks me out sleep wise! when do get to sleep that is! but can be done ,always hope and dreams not matter what the 'label' given even late in life which AS & ADHD were! so never give up believing dream the impossible if determined enough it WILL & CAN be done! X KLX
  6. is your son depressed? sounds like your son had many challenging issues and what needs addressing in which order must be difficult to arrange for his own emotional state and well-being! i can empathise i on /off have had same issues as your son personally experiencing right now (self-harm - cutting ,ODing,) sounds like your son frustrated with not being able to verbally express how he feels inside sounds like he feels trapped and isolated in many ways! i recently just found out i also have ADHD too! which would make sense of other 'issues' which been ongoing and complex to say the least! with your son having issues dressing and undressing himself this due to organistation or physical side of this or both? XKLX
  7. hoping whatever medication we decide is suitable enough for me will calm, relax my system down enough to dampen down restlessness levels which sky high as high energy levels which wipe me out /drain me! i will not be beaten i'm determined be successful no matter what i'm faced with or what letters i have after my name! i have to lol about it or i think i'd be rocking and crying in corner! i'm not going to say i don't have my 'dark times' when could so 'give in and up' but be such an 'easy option' and i just won't do it! after my family hard work/effort throughout the years! i struggle to get up ,fight/battle everyday challenges and again to switch off to go to sleep! XKLX
  8. it strange really it is relief but at same time shocked that it is ADHD causing many difficulties /issues alongside AS , Mixed Anxiety & Depressive Disorder ,Social Anxiety Disorder which explains anger management issues, emotional regulation issues as well as executive functions which had been left outstanding from AS assessment reports in May 2005 .. it quite hard to take that both AS/ADHD were investigated yet discovered by pure accident of someone seeing 'outstanding difficulties /issues' i ain't rangising much hopes on support services side even though now adding extra issues of ADHD alongside AS ,Dyspraxia M.A.D.D XKLX
  9. well the assessment took 2 and half hours to complete with my mum by my side - i had 4 mini tests which found quite hard, difficult -challenging i also took along school reports to give a insight into childhood to show evidence! the outcome after looking at both mine and my mum's questionaires we filled in and sent off as well as questions we asked about past, present and then these tests altogether. i knew the outcome before clinical pyschologist told us but i have main type of ADHD combined type just waiting from letter from local CMHT to discuss medication options and also a appointment letter to see clinical nurse on emotional management skills with ADHD & AS team who referred me for ADHD assessment in first place now 'explains' how i thought bi-polar/BPD direction as easily confused /mixed up with ADHD pyschologist explained like female AS ,female ADHD also hard to discover due to it seen as 'male condition'! also normally when AS is 'found' it left at that and nothing more is searched or investigated! so frustrating adds to lost years i felt so confused within! always thought just down to MH issues nothing more! XKLX
  10. i received a appointment letter through the post on thursday have to fill in questionnaire (Wender Utah rating scale) & adult ADHD self-report scale symptom checklist and my mum has fill in questionnaire of how i was when was a child etc (mum has fill in same questionnaire as mine) and got to send both questionnaires off to ADHD & AS team before my appointment date of thursday 10th October at 1:30pm -The letter explains the consultation of the assessment could take up to 3 hours but should get an outcome of the assessment there and then hopefully fingers crossed anyways! can but hope i suppose! though not hoping too high ! the letter also says we get few 20 minute breaks in between been told it quite similar to an AS assessment also have to bring school reports along when looking through my reports which i have from reception, year 1- juniors and senior's school only year which haven't got is year 6! which isn't too bad glad my mum kept my reports now as noticed a running pattern /theme throughout of attention/concentration issues is clear to see and stands out! XKLX
  11. at least can emapthise with your daughter's difficulties /issues and ca relate to her situations and how make her 'think' and feel sometimes when child is assessed and diagnosed can bring up issues /events relating to your past that can make connection too and piece /link together neatly closely if you feel it would positively help you move forward ,give you 'missing answers' for years only you can answer that as it personal decision to chase up if feel it bothering/worrying you that much now your daughter has an ASD diagnosis in black and white from CAMHS! -from what you've described /explained in your long list of issues ,struggles and difficulties certainly pointing in main classic ASD direction and can be passed down from parent to child or have a genetic source/link within family! so isn't impossible for be likely! XKLX
  12. been referred to local hosp ADHD & AS team (have previously accessed their service before!) through adult MHT (through care co-ordinator) and had my appointment this afternoon my mum attended with me as on the form i completed said be helpful to bring someone with you! i saw clinical nurse specialist she asked me and my mum lots of questions related to focus ,attention ,impulsivity (thoughts & behaviour) nurse said pointing in suspected likely hood & direction of ADHD??? -bit shocked to be honest i have agreed to be on assessment waiting list! now just waiting to here! nursereckons showing quite few common main signs of ADHD just assumed part of picture of Dyspraxia or AS but maybe not just them two maybe triple factor! long list of letters now following after my name! lol
  13. i tried travel sickness tablets today - they actually my 8 year old niece's but seem to successfully work on me could travel without feeling rough and yuk so nice not feel dizzy or nausea and actually even fell asleep in the car was great stuff now going to buy my own just wanted to test/trial to see if actually did work! -glad they did as feel like that on planes, trains ,buses and cars now know what works! or get banging headache! XKLX
  14. i watched this the other day- i would personnally 'jum[' to opinion he heading in ASD direction like 'RainMan' XKLX
  15. @ Amy Pond - do you live near/in Northampton then??? x
  16. i would personally keep track calum's behaviour /issues through diary and may make you be able to help manage his emotions or behaviours more effectively come up with ways (advice/tips) further on how to improve, progress on his behaviour patterns involving different situations together with others involved such as SALT input to come up with action plan of how to adapt his needs XKLX

    Worried mum

from what you've explained ,listed in your post about your son all issues /worries and concerns seems to go in high possiblity direction of ASD so i would say you have done right decision in booking doctor's appointment to discuss further these issues that been surfacing forever now and say how much bothering you as the list being added to all time! keep pushing forward! from what you've mentioned already this would justify in my personal opinion a serious investigation /assessment further into ASD! i would say heading in right direction as the issues you have listed are main ASD issues lack of looking people in the eye (eye contact) , sensory issues (loud ,sudden noises) obsessions with highway code etc lack of social interaction, lacking personal space ,repeating himself and you have 'right' as his mum on his behalf to have these issues addressed /investigated further as been ongoing ,growing issues that long-term and will continue to grow even more if not checked out! the sooner have looked into better true outcome of his future and progress will be set on! i would INSIST on seeing different doctor and asking for SECOND OPINION! -GOOD LUCK! XKLX
  18. i like your daughter was officially assessed and diagnosed in my early teens and i can really empathise totally with statements like how do schools go along and not know 'anything is wrong' for so long?! again like you when look back in school reports it says on several comments how seem to be in daydream like state 'in my own little world' and socialise more with adults than peers yet everything back then put down to 'general SEN' term and not looked no further as no actual term of HFA/AS really and get hidden missed as 'blend into background' which is scary thought/situation so many comments /statements /situation added together make clearer picture but can't help but feel 'missed out' on childhood robbed of it due to deeper investigation so know how you feel my parents had pure battle on hands trying to get me officially assessed & diagnosed for Dyspraxia which was a struggle literally as thought my mum was 'over protective' which a classic situation parents are faced with i was bullied all time such miserable place to be school was found such difficult place to be felt unsafe/uncomfortable! feel lack of awareness is no excuse for not helping me progress forward feel didn't have much of childhood to expand on even level felt like this has had long term effect on self -esteem crushed it used to get so frustrated i was seen as disruptive ,loud ,naughty bad child which years after are still left with aftermath effects trying to move on and build on foundations/structures which i have grown stage by stage! i feel like my school could have done more they judged stereotyped too much was put down on behaviour shown not explored i feel do i have 'natural' right to feel 'robbed' ,angry ,hurt ,bitter at school experiences especially with teachers! i now work in nursery and work with pre-schoolers and within there we have few children being investigated for ASD and knowing the signs i would say highly likely /possible this is outcome in there own world non-verbal just sounds and no friends all adds up see it so clear now i am one of 'them' never thought would end up like that but it has hope to help others escape misery pain frustration/isolation i felt growing up wanting to be liked, understood ... 'saved' i suppose! these days there is really no excuse for lack of awareness /understanding of ASD as 'out there' more so than ever was growing up when i was at school more open honest! and seen as 'spectrum' rather just one end -severe classic (kanners) XKLX
  19. you probably know this answer by now as only just got chance to replying to your post as been so busy with new job, work but refusing wear such type/texture, material of clothing would be likely highly possible down to sensory issues and is quite common factor within ASD. so is pointing sensory in that direction he may just have sensory issues on it's own. hope that's some informative and not too late. i have both AS & Dyspraxia and sensory issues may be down to just the dyspraxia acting alone but worth investigating/checking out further so rule out 'anything else' to give you peace of mind more than anything. XKLX
  20. so sorry haven't been on here for bit,while... seems like forever seems like missed loads hope i haven't anyways hope can manage to catch up or be given a catch up anyway! been real mad ,crazily rushing around rying work out ,settle in adjusting to new job three weeks in tomorrow goes so quick/fast been given lot of over -time already! gone from dping 5 hours a week at old work place to now fifteen hours so bit of jump/difference! but getting there slowly! wondering what's happening to me where am i! scary if think about it for too long so try not too! so far so good senior manager trying to keep as consistent as possibility can do for me so don't have swap rooms alot as she fully aware of my ASD needs ( as old boss mentioned autism lots of my reference she wrote me that need to be understanding /supportive of my needs within work place which thought was thoughtful ,nice statement to make! so was pleased i was upfront about my needs in first place on application form /interview still got 13 week induction period yet i'm in! but think doing 'well' so far and hope making 'grand/good impression' so worn out /drained with amount of over-time though not used to it mentally zaps me always have an early night now! but main thing is so far enjoy 'new challenge' everyday bringing to me! and that managing to face/deal with it head on though may not find easy and maybe stressful/anxious so looking forward to and in desperate need of my holiday next month (end of july) with parents, twin brother & neice for 3 weeks to Turkey as worked so hard this year stepped out of one job straight into another! feel like ain't had real chance to step back look around and take in what has happened! been like mad dash whirlwind! can't wait to chill, relax ,unwind ....!!! XKLX
  21. thanks for all congratulations and well done!!! means alot -manager of nursery rang me this morning and asked me when could come in to fill in revelant paperwork (online CRB) so got to bring identity paperwork along ( bank statement ,wage slip etc) and an mini induction tomorrow morning at 10-12pm as 2 references came back quick as yesterday it all happened to fast and quick -so rapid like whirlwind but glad i'm going straight from one (Current) nursery job to another (new) one! as me waiting around until nursery closed would make me more anxious ,restless and stressed so this is 'best' outcome as such i leave current nursery on 24th May (next Friday) and start new nursery job on 28th May (have bank hols is closed) i'm handing in my week's notice tomorrow afternoon sometime wrote it out on computer ,parents helped me draft the notice letter before they went away to help me structure correctly! just typed it up and just got to print out the notice letter! can't wait to update my parents when they ring tonight they be SO pleased that i'm another step forward now! all in process/motion considering i haven't had that long to digest and process this sudden situation XKLX
