  1. A big resounding YES. Ds is 7 he doesn't have a dx yet but I am convinced he has AS. He cries numerous times throughout the day and always has done. He never used to get angry once he turned three but over the last couple of months his emotional outbursts somethimes lead to anger. His crying follows the same pattern, he is struggling to do something, things don't go the way he has planned or he doesn't win. He then cries (without any tears) and will say "I am a loser, I am an idiot, you hate me don't you? you don't love me, I have no friends" This can be repeated twenty plus times in a day. TBH I find it emotionally draining and quite embarrasing if we are out and he is saying "you hate me". He needs constant encouragement, reassurance and praise and even with that groundhog day never changes. i have asked for advice from the Ed Pysch but was told to try social stories which I had already done. Regarding the process, it varies from area to area so I can only share my experiance. He was referred by school to BEST in Apr 2010 they came into school weekly to work on social skills. During a home visit aspergers/Autism was first mentioned to me. I googles it and suddenly everything made sense. Referred to SALT by school. SALT referred to Comm Paed who he has now seen twice. Paed referred to Physio and OT- who have assessed him as having immature gross motor skills, OT as having sensory problems. School referred him to the Ed Pysch. We are now waiting to go on the waiting list for CAMHS who will do the ADOS. DS doesn't behave any different in the school hols if anything he is more relaxed. DS doesn't have any friends in school although when he was your DS's age the other children would play with him until they got fed up with playing Mario Bros. he rarely plays football but when he does he will cry if they tackle him, if they don't pass the ball to him.
  2. Have you tried Relate? someone posted about marriage counselling specific to AS, wasn't long ago. Other than that haven't really got any advice. Just wanted to say Hi and welcome I am sure someone in a similar position will be along shortly yo offer advice. xx
  3. Hya Bid, sorry I am not being very clear. I did take this whilst pregnant for severe morning sickness and thought no more about it. One of the questionnaires I completed about DS asked about meds I had taken during pregnancy. I was reading the debate about MMR on here and one of the posters talked about a predisposition exacerbated by enviromental factors and meds taken in pregnancy. This made me wonder so I googled the drug and was dismayed by what I found. In addition to the proven complications (tardive) there are lots of parents who have posted on different sites saying that they took this drug and have a child dx with ASD or PDD. I know it is only anecdotal but until I can find some evidence to disprove this I can't stop obsessing.
  4. Thank you for taking the time, I have googled for hours. Although it states that metoclopramide is safe during pregnancy this is an off the label usage. I cannot find a single study to confirm this other than it doesn' cause a significant increase in Birth defects. I am looking for information on the developing child. Lots of parents have sued the maker of this drug as it was given to children for reflux and has caused Tardive dyskinesia (parkinson's like symptoms) and it now has a black box warning on it. If I could just find a decent study that confirms that there was no ill effect on the developing child I could stop obssessing about it.
  5. Please could somebody point me in the right direction of a study that supports the use of metoclopramide during pregnancy. I know that it would change things but it would could put my mind at rest. The only studies that i can find are that metoclopramide doesn't cause birth defects which Autism isn't. Metoclopramide crosses the placenta and the blood brain barrier. I am not trying to start a big debate like the MMR but purely for my own peace of mind.
  6. Have you tried the spray for up the nose from the docs?, sorry can't think of the name.
  7. Sounds complicated, my friend works in the same school as her NT son and is in his class and I know she finds it hard at times.
  8. I have no problem with my son having toy guns and swords. He has the gun from star wars and quazar guns that we play with. I don't believe that playing with toy guns turns children into gang bangers with real guns. Parents should do what feel right for them and their child.

    Tics

Thanks for your reply, at the moment DS doesn't have a dx of anything still in the process. I was just unsure if tics are part of AS.

    Tics

Hya I have looked at the criteria for tourettes dx and it states that alongside motor tics there must be a vocal tic. So my question is do your AS children have tics that aren't classified as tourettes? DS 6 has had a tic for over a year. it started as just nose scrunching and sniffing but has now evolved into - Scrunching nose + sniffing - eyes widening looking out of corners of eyes - flicking tongue and licking lips followed by a grimace. they are not separate tics he does them all together folowing the pattern as I have listed. He does have stims as well, finger flicking, flapping, bouncing from foot to foot but he does these when excited or frustrated whereas he does the tics all the time. what is the differance between a stim and a tic? Thanks for any replies.
  12. I really enjoyed this book, couldn't put it down. Can anyone recommend any other fiction books or films were ASD'd feature, Watched Adam already. Thanks
  13. I find it really hard whenever I have appointments.I always feel that I have not given a true reflection of my son and its all negative (a bit like filling in the DLA form, I gave up). As shown from the OP. What I wish I had told her is that He see the world in HDTV, what frightens him terrifies him what he loves he adores. He cannot find the words for emotions but feels the emotions of music so strongly. He can see the beauty of nature and shows me details I would never see without him. <'>
