  1. I'm the other way round, currently living in supported living and desperately want my own flat or house. Too much politics here especially with some staff moaning about tenants getting too much benefits, more then them after they've paid their rents and bills and tenants getting too much disposable income. My allocated staff member today was moaning about another services getting too much money and not having that 'bad Autism, he could get a job but he's lazy'.. I bet he's slagging me off behind my back. I have just been released from a section 3, well still on it until Tuesday, section 17 home leave. Spent 5 weeks in hospital suffering psychosis on top of ASD. Is it really possible for me to be working when I'm getting sectioned all the time and that member of staff slagging another service user off. Makes me feel bad.
  2. I was give the label Autistic Traits by a consultant psychiatrist specialising in ASD disorders, Among other things I also have a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder which is far more debilitating then then the Autistic Traits. Thats why I'm in the critical criteria for the LD team.
  3. I have a mild learning disability and also have substantial needs so have a social worker and a care budget paid for from the LD team.
  4. I requested my medical notes from the GP surgery and among other diagnoses it says 'Autistic Traits' and was wondering what that exactly means, I'm I on the spectrum?
  5. I live in supported living now and it has been a godsend because my life before was miserable and lonely with a abusive friends exploiting me financially and physically, I was very lonely with low self esteem and my life was totally going down the toilet to the point I nearly got remanded for street robbery after my so called friend accused me and another lad of beating him up and stealing his 20 pack of beer he just brought from Morrison's when infect all three of us went into Tesco and stole the beer, on interview at the police station they wouldn't take my account and ended up charing me with street robbery and holding me until court, at court my co-defendant got remanded and I got conditional bail with 7am -7pm tag and not to see or talk to my so called friend only because I have a mild learning disability (ASD not diagnosed at the time) The CID didn't even bother checking the CCTV at Tesco to check my story, lucky my solicitor got the CCTV footage from Tesco the next day and gave it to the police. My friend rang with on the next Tuesday which he new was my benefit day and wanted to have a drink with me and told me he dropped the charges, I thought I better keep the best side of him because I really wanted him to drop the charges, we hung out for 3 weeks drinking and smoking weed then one morning the police knocked on the door with a warrant for shoplifting and my so call mate was sleeping at mine, I ended up breaching my bail conditions that day but luckily the street robbery got dripped that day otherwise I would of been remanded. The police don't have your best interests at heart.
  6. I was just wondering if one was to have Aspergers Syndrome would that cancel out a learning disability and makes ones condition ASD? Does a person with Aspergers Syndrome need a IQ of over 70 to be diagnosed with said condition?
  7. I was successful in getting into the support group with ASD traits alone, it does really depend on how much input one has with filling out the forms, if its done by a social worker or mental health professional one has a much better chance you know.
  8. The threshold at which people meet social services eligibility is getting harder and harder from central government cuts, I had to flight social services LD department for a increase in hours after being sectioned twice and having a serious psychiatric diagnosis, I know receive a 39 hour a week support package.
  9. Mine was relatively straightforward because I have a social worker who filled the ESA assessment paper in for me and sent if off and I was awarded ESA in the support group for two years without a medical.
  10. You're effectively giving your child stimulants, substituted amphetamine really and thats going to suppress hunger.
  11. I think BPD is thrown around way to easily within mental health settings.
  12. The obsessional thoughts common in ASD could be fuelling the Psychosis and delusions by thinking about the same subject constantly, pattens join up and you become very illogical thinking wise. I know with me when I become poorly I get very obsessive around certain things mainly paranoia, its hard to switch off.
  13. I attend a mindfulness group every Thursday and find it really beneficial.
  14. I'm just going through the process having just sent my ESA50 back. I got my social worker to fill in the forms for me and will definitely be taking him along to any medical, I told him I was really worried and he says he nows of nobody who as lost benefits. But this is with the learning disability team in Brixton. What team are you under?
  15. Try and get social services involved because they have specialist ASD teams which might be able to point you in the right direstion in regards to benefits and suitable housing if you are having difficulties in those areas. You could become his financial guardian by becoming his appointee where you get control of his money payed into a separate account, that means you will become responsible for his money and looks better on benefit forms, if he's buying drugs he's not managing his money, ect......
  16. I'm interested to know what its like in residential care and what sort of activities they do throughout the day, I'm be going to a place for mild/moderate LD with ASD when my social worker arranges it, he said I need more structure which I'm not getting in supported living and I hate it here anyway. I get full benefits at the moment. How much of them do I get to keep..... What are you experiences of residential? Thanks
  17. I've been on the breadline numerous times actually homeless on occasions so I know what its like. You survive. You need your emergency rations if the worst comes to worse and you find yourself homeless, most important thing you need is a tent and sleeping bag, they are often given out in homeless outreach centres, find a quite spot to pitch up best on the outskirts of town but within walking distance, you'll actually get alot of support finding accommodation from the outreach team so most likely you won't be on the street long but you'll be placed in a hostel and you'll still be classed as homeless on the council register and housed quicker. How old are you? If your under 25 the youth service will help you with food parcels as well as adult homeless outreach they ofter the basics but nothing special. I don't condone shoplifting but I have done it I don't think its a very good idea if I give you tips on here because it basically a crime you if caught you'll get arrested. You'll actually find very edible food thrown away in supermarkets dustbin often wrapped up quite well to protect them from contamination, tins of beans, bread, sweets thrown away in huge amonts, best to leave the large superstores and concentrate on small convenience stores like coop as they don't use compressors, you'll find all sorts to survive.
  18. My father passed away from liver cancer last year and it was horrible way to go, luckily he had dementia so I don't think he understood what was happening so that made me feel somewhat better.
  19. Just had another community care assessment to assess my current needs and apparently if I wasn't known to the learning disability team and had this been my first assessment I would't meet the criteria for LD services and would be denied services because of the cut backs. I found out today that they are cutting back my day services to two days a week because of budget cuts so am pretty scared that they will cut back my supported living hours and effectually make me homeless because I can't live here without any supported hours, the care company would chuck me out for somebody that SS pays more for. Anybody here affected my the cut backs?
  20. I've been receiving DLA over nine years and in that time havent had no medical for reapplying, its gone really smooth so far, but at the time I just left a special needs school placement and received input from the children with disabilities team who basically filled out the forms. I dread to think what will happen when the new benefit proposals come into forse.
  21. I thought Bipolar affective disorder were for both 1 and 2 but I'm unsure. When I asked the doctor which one he said don't concern yourself about it Are you hoping to be diagnosed with Bipolar special_talent?
  22. I'm Bipolar but don't know which type because the doctors refuse to talk to me about it, normally they send you a letter out outlining what they discussed in meetings but they even refused to send them out to me saying it'll rase my anxieties. So at the moment all I know is that I have Bipolar affective disorder as well as BPD without no reasoning behind why I have it.
  23. It sounds are really nice caring home Glen is in.
  24. When I used to frequent the gym I found between 9am and 11,30 to be the best time as there wasn't alot of people there, I hate crowds.
  25. I used to suffer terrible travel sickness as a child but its seems to have cleared up now I'm older.
