  1. Hi DLA has been claimed, what a task those forms are. I did write everything possible in worst case possible with letters and reports etc from professionals to back me up. ds was awarded middle rate of dla which is better than nothing! Thanks

    Reminisce

I used to LOVE cabana's, and I do remember 54321, loved them too, and Stripers, 4 kinds of flavours chew bar thing!!! what about walnut whips but with coffee cream inside??? Can't get them now, also PROPER bonfire lollys that were in a foil cup type thing, could be used as an ashtray after the lolly had long gone???? And i remember polo's being 7p poer pack, thought it was great!!
  3. My younger ds was in the same boat. He was always picked on when he went out to play with his so called "mates" mainly because he had an obsession with cloakes, he wore one for about 6 years!!! Honest!! Because he looked so different he would obviously get picked on. I spoke to other kids parents an explained about asd, but don't think it did much. Kids didn't change much at all. They came round with a pitiful apology which ds accepted readily as he was desperate to play out again....only to be picked on and bullied again. Ds couldn't understand how the other kids could be so hurtful while being sorry for hurting him the time before. I got him a mobile phone, a godsend actually, he uses it all the time. I got a very old fashioned one, quite large purely so no one else would want to pinch it off him as any kid wanting the latest things wouldn't want to be seen with such an out of date phone but it works and that's all it needs to do for us!
  4. Hi Thanks for your reply, it's good to know we're not alone out here!!! Sorry to hear that you didn't get any help with the forms, could you not ask dwp for a reassessment and get someone else to do the nasty business of form filling for you? I know how hard they can be to do, as well as my 18 yr old I have a 14 yr old who was dx autistic when he was 3 so it's always funa n games at our house! Thanks again, Dawn
  5. Always trust your instincts. Gut reaction is always correct! My ds went to mainstream primary and did very well. When time came to choose secondary school I must have visited a dozen, mainstream and special school. Was immediately drawn to the special school but didn't follow my instinct as thought wouldn't be doing him any favours as he'd done so well in mainstream up to that point. Choose the best secondary mainstream school, he weent there for 6 weeks and all hell broke loose. Ended up giving up work and taking him out of school all together. He's now in a special school just out of our area but within a week of getting in there was so settled, calm, not anxious or aggressive. What a relief! It took nearly 5 months tho, so wish I'd gone with my gut to start with....learning curve for us all i suppose! Good luck!
  6. My 18 yr old ds was dx aspergers this summer. He isn't working (too stressful) but has finished 2 yrs in college. He is now claiming benefits for himself ( a big task that's finally sorted) but he has to get a sick note every month from our dr to send to dwp to continue to claim benefit. He can't claim JSA because he's not looking for work. Can't claim incapacity because he's never worked and so hasn't paid enough on his stamp to get it, so is on IS. Why does he have to get a sick note??? Surely a diagnosis is enough proof that he is aspergers and always will be, he won't grow out of it!! Is it just me or are things too complicated? Has anyone else come acoss problems like this???
