  1. nothing wrng with bely dancing, and it is supposed to be good exercise for you as well. sure you will have a good laugh doing it as well
  2. but like so many things, there are many theories, but no 100% conclusive proof
  3. like i have already stated, how can there be normal autistic behaviour, like the rest of us, no two people are the same, each has his / her own individual characteristics. so how can there be text bok behaviour?????
  4. lack of proper help and support, is one of the drawbacks of living in a remote island community.
  5. our son was initially daignosed with aspergers at age 12, we were told that without the correct treatment, help, he would also develop paranoid scizhophrenia in time, at the age of 23 he was sectioned and diagnosed with schizophrenia. after hearing voices, throwing all of his furniture out onto th estreet, and digging up his rotary clothes drier, which was embedded in several feet of concrete, he was covvinced, that the clothes dryer was an aeriel wiht which "they were spying" on him, the "voices" told him so. after 3 tears in a psychriatric unit on medication, he now self medicates, he has now been diagnosed with aspergers, and you think you are confused.
  6. like i have said, i can only go by the personal experiences we have had with our son over the past 26 years, and the professional advice we have received. but when i post here i get shot down in flames, this is not so much a help and advice site, as an i am right site for lucas. so sorry to say this will be my last post here. i can help others elsewhere.
  7. thanks lucas, after 3 years in hospital, and at the age of 26 our son has just been diagnosed as having aspergers, it has been a long hsrd fight, but we got there in the end. this is one of the problems living on an island away from the mainland, and decent medical services, it takes extreme action to get the help on eneeds. as for the schizophrenia, this diagniosis came about after, our son , upon hearing voices, out all his furniture out into the street, then proceeded to dig up the drying whirlygig in his garden ,mwhich was by the way, embedded in 4 feet of concrete.
  8. when our son was diagnosed as having aspergers, we were told, that unless he received the correct treatment, he would develop scizhophrenia. as apparentlt 90% of as sufferers do?? lo and behold at the age of 23 he was diagnosed with paranoid scizhophrenia. but no doubt someone here will tell me that the doctors are wrong. to cut a long story short, he was sectioned, and has spent the last 3 years in hospital, now, with the correct treatment, he is due for discharge later this year.
  9. lucas, i would value your input in my site at http://gordondowning.proboards43.com thanks
  10. synasthesia is a condition where the sufferer sees words as colours, and in some casses can taste words. , dont want to alarm you, but is your daughter aspergers? if so the voices could be linked to scizhophrenia. this is what happened to our son.
  11. all we have had to go on is experience, and advive from professor davidson at dr grays hospital elgin, and her reccommendation that we read lorna wings books. we are also memebers of nas, and nsf, our son is now in aberdeen at a satelite unit of the hospital, he has now aquired a 1 bedroom flat, and with the elp of jigsaw in aberdeen will be moving into his new home shortly, they will set up a care package, and monitor his self medication. that is why we are leaving shetland, and moving down to aberdeen
  12. my experience and understanding of aspergers sufferers is that they have difficulty empathising with others emotional feelings, thus are unable to react in a conventional way, especialy in a social setting. in our sons case this led to extreme behaviour, in order to get a rection he could empathise with. i.e anger. hence the reason he was expelled from school (masturbating in class), hence telling his grandmother that his mother and uncle had an incestious relationship, and he was a result of that relationship. hence his mother waking up in bed, on more than one occassin, with our son standing over her, clutching a kitchen knife. it was his way of getting a reaction. as for autistic/ aspergers tendencies, i have had experience working with several as sufferers and no 2 showed the same text book tendencies, but like i always say, they probably have never read the text books.
  13. our other son has dyspraxia, and has now been diagnosed as bi - polar, he has also started self harming
  14. so are you saying that for the last 27 years we have totally mis - understood our aspergers son, who by the way was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia 4 years ago, and was sectioned accordingly. does this then mean that there is nothing wrong with our son, and we are in the wrong
  15. as for lack of understanding of autism. our eldest has aspergers, our youngest dyspraxia, both autistic spectrum disorders. our eldes had know conception of emotion, except for one, anger, hence he often did things just to get a violent reaction. as for hearing colours and seeing sounds, its a condition called syaesthesia
