Children on the spectrum find it hard to understand their emotions.
My son told me "I don't know what a happy feeling is".
Sometimes this can be a processing difficulty ie. not processing what is happening in real time, and therefore not connecting emotions to events.
He should be assessed for emotional literacy and a programme put in place.

hes only 4 and a half though, is this not normal for his age? he tells me when hes sad... if hes upset about not getting his own way hesometimes will say "mummy im angry at you" so he has some understanding of his emotions. He says he "happy" and also "not happy". But angry, sad and happy are the only ones he uses.
