  1. My 15 year old son is on vitamins which have helped to temper his mood swings and anxiety. I bought them from Holland and barret, however I was wondring about the quantity. He is on mega B 100 which is a b complex. It has 7, 143% RDA of B6 vitamin amongst otherB vitamins. I have been told any excessive B vitamins are excreted from the body. Could he now be put on the ordinary B complex with similar results not the mega?He has been on the stronger dose for four months. The magnesium is magnesium oxide( and magnesium stearate) with 266 mg 71% RDA, with zinc 10mg 100% RDA. He is also taking triple strength omega 3 the eye q brand and vitamin C 500 mg 625% RDA. The health advisers in the shop said the above is fine, but I was wondering if changing to a lower dosage of B complex might make his mood swings anxiety get bad again? Has anyone got any experience with these?
  2. Thanks Alexis for your reply A part of it could be a part of it is as well the dynamics change at home. can CBT work on its own for adolescence.
  3. I posted last week about my son who has been diagnosed at 15. Well I went back to the psychiatrist who told me that because he was diagnised late( the previous psychiatrist when I came out wth concerns in 2011 erroneously took ASD as borderline personality disorder which has now be overturned) and,the fact he has anger issues and severe anxiety makes it difficult to treat him although we will try with CBTin one and half months as there is a waiting list, if he engages. The psychiatrist did suggest Prozac to my son who has refused it. In the meantime I am really worried that if in adolescence he does something extreme with the anger and mood swings either to hurt himself or myself he could end up getting sectioned or something. What social work help and support could I get if in a crisis situation such that I am in with him now. I look after him on my own and his father is in France and am finding the stress of it too much.He got particularly bad since my mother died six months ago and she lived with us. Thank you for any advise. bains
  4. I can't really afford to get a private SALT (what does the latter mean?) invoved or Ot or EP as he got in on partial scholarship but will try your other suggestions.
  5. I am paying but it is not asd specific although they have experience and a few people with Aspergers.
  6. Yes my son is already in an independent school I have seen the sen co ordinator but there is no IEP plan although she is aware of my concerns. Can I still go to the LA as you suggest.
  7. Thanks Mt MCkinley, As he is in an independent school would the same procedure above apply.
  8. HI,MT Mckinley and all He does do the subjects he enjoys like chemistry or physics or maths but does not want to do the longer essay type subjects like English 1 200 words or extended project which is about chocolate and needs to be 1 500 words. These in particular are causing anxiety and avoidance.
  9. Hi, what medecines would you consider to be the safest for anxiety with the least side affects generally. Does anyone know? Help desperately needed. Thanks
  10. Hi Kilmanjaro I do not know when the CBT therapy will start but quite soon he said, the psychiatrist thinks my son does not need meds. However I am unsure. Thank you
  11. I posted last week with regard to my son who is having severe mood swings and has been recently diagnosed with asperger. He avoids any contact with me and just wants to stay on the computer all the time even started violence toward me. I also posted that he is getting really stressed by the idea that GCSE is important and the anxiety levels are so severe that he is finding it difficult to work. This week I went back to the CAMHS office and the psychiatrist said that he could be treated with CBT and a combination of family therapy and that this works as well as the medications and to trust him. If my son's symptoms are having a severe impact on his life surely the doctor can prescribe something for the mood swings, severe anxiety around work, social anxiety. I find it a bit suprising he is not doing so but don't have much experience in these matters. Does anyone have any further experience or input. Thank You
  12. Hi I am going to the CAMHS office on Wednesday to see the psychiatrist. He is likely to suggest handling the ADD or the Asperger side with medication. Will talk about finding trigger CBT and try supplements, cutting out dairy and so forth.. He is finding abstract subjects like English difficult and is getting fustrated by that but quite honestly any little glitch like with the computer can set him off. Also he seems so anxious when I address discussing what the problem is that I have to leave it but can guess the triggers which are reinforced by your advise. Will go to school to get an SEN or IEP whilst dealing with the medical side. He does have friends at school who are quite high achievers might be fustrated that before he could keep up but now can't. He does not get into mood swings at school so much just very anxious about getting work in on the set time. Although the teachers have said he does not have to do this he still gets in a fix on it. I think the routine at school is beneficial to some degree. Also, planning and organisation are a key issue as he wants to spend all his time on the computer then gets fustrated when he hasn't done his school work. This might be ADD. bains
  13. What do you do if your 15 year old is having very severe mood swings. Like knocking big holes in walls. Really need help bains
  14. Hi Mel, To be honest I do not know which medications they would prescribe but he does get aggressive and bangs quite violently on doors and walls when stressed about work or told to do something,so the medication could be for mood swings and aggressive impulsivity. .Also, I'm not sure about depression but I don't think it would be too much. They have not given a full diagnosis. The psychiatrist is stiil correlating test results for Attention Deficit Disorder. He did want to do A levels as he is quite a bright boy but finding the pressure of exams especially English as it has a more uknown factor very difficult to cope with. The school is trying to ease pressure and are offering counselling. Thanks
  15. Thanks Lynda, It all makes alot of sense what you have said. As he feels under pressure from school and although was anxious before was getting really anxious now.
