  1. Let's try to stay on-topic, guys
  2. I've heard of this happening on several forums. Why is it deemed acceptable to keep old members' personal information by not giving them the option to delete their accounts? Seeing that old members cannot delete their accounts make me very concerned about what is being done with my own personal data as an active member...
  3. People do not discriminate against the condition, they discriminate against traits of a person. Kalamity, the discrimination will likely be worse if you don't get a diagnosis. Have you shown your parents the results of your AQ tests? If not, it might be worth showing them now. You could also sit down with them and discuss your reasons for thinking you have AS rather than just 'general eccentricities', especially seeing as most people who were formerly seen as 'eccentric' in the oh-so-revered 20th century and beforehand would be likely to receive an AS diagnosis now. If you can persuade your parents to let you see your GP, it might be very useful for you to get a diagnosis - as you are a minor, you are entitled to so many more forms of support than you would be as an adult. I can see you're a very intelligent young lady so getting support now may be useful in achieving your full potential. As someone who went through childhood and adolescence with AS, I'd like to give you a piece of advice: Try your utmost hardest to stay positive about things and never forget who you are. I spent a lot of my younger years being negative and pessimistic and trying to be someone I'm not and at 23 years old I've realised that it is a habit that gets harder to break as you get older. I am striving to be more positive now, even if I do have the occasional slip-up and regress into Moaning Matt. And it does feel so much better. You can achieve so much more if you're feeling positive. I see a lot of potential in you and would hate for it to go to waste. I wish you the very best of luck with life and encourage you to enjoy your childhood and adolescence as much as you can! Remember - only you can make yourself become the best adult you can. No one else can shape you, even though they will try. Good luck!
  4. I am quite interesting in the idea of setting up a support group for people with ASDs in my area, as there is currently nothing like this within a 30 mile radius. I was just wondering if anyone has done this themselves, and if so, if they can give me any pointers. I want to give something back to the community after years and years of taking. I also want to do this for myself, as my life is so very empty and currently has no meaning. I know it makes the whole thing slightly self-centred in concept, but if it helps other people, why not?
  5. That's so sad. Our good gestures are so often totally ignored or even made fun of. FaS, the shorter days and increased darkness can affect people's moods, as can the cold. I can sympathise though - I get really low in the winter. Just out of interest, do you feel like properly sad or is it like being numb? That's how I feel. I'm not sure if 'numb' is the right word, but that's the only way I can describe it

  8. Definitely laptop. Software-wise, it will be worth making sure he has Flash and Java installed on his internet browser (I do not recommend using Internet Explorer - might be worth installing Firefox or Chrome for him) and possibly VLC for video and audio playback. To be honest though, if the school is willing to pay for it ideally I think he should have a Mac. They are so much simpler to use than Windows and much less prone to crashing, which for a young aspie can be infuriating, and Apple's support is really good.

Keep going, Mihaela. We believe in you. To anyone who wonders how someone can make fun of their own difficulties: you should all learn from Mihaela here. Laughing at your own faults is one of the best things you can do to get through the darkness. If you don't laugh, you can only cry.
  10. This 'one word' rule has gone completely out of the window Production
  11. This is probably not what you want to hear, but do you not think it is possible that your behaviour is the cause of all this? I say this because I have fallen into the trap of thinking everyone else was out to get me in the past, but I realised how untrue it was when I really thought things through. From an outsiders' point of view, it really does sound like you had been very upsetting and threatening towards the two female support workers if they have taken a harassment order out against you. I know you may want to apologise, but if the harassment order says you must not contact them, you really must not contact them for any reason whatsoever, in order to avoid being arrested again. As much as I detest the police, in this case it sounds like they were only doing their job. If you have been deemed a threat to other people, they have to do everything they can to ensure the safety of the public. Please don't take this as me having a go at you, because it's not. I just think you would benefit from trying to see things in another perspective as I'm all too aware of how going down the path of blaming everyone else can go
  12. That latest one is a little dodgy if you ask me. Jeremy suggests the troublesome colleague has 'low-level' autism, but to me it doesn't sound like the guy has it at all. It's very worrying how common these misconceptions are about autism, especially as thousands of people will read Jeremy's response and assume his misinformation about autism is correct.
  13. I'm back, and earlier than expected. Just gotta keep soldiering on through the dark into the light!

  14. I'm going to leave the forum for a bit. Can't deal with things right now. Might be back after Christmas, might not.

  15. Interesting. I don't think much of Jeremy's response - it seems kind of generic advice. It's good to see you informing people that NAS probably isn't the best route to go down for employment advice. It's a real shame that they only offer advice to employers now. There's far too much focus these days on helping employers rather than helping individuals
  16. I'd be interested to know what sort of light ASD people will be portrayed on this programme. So far, autistic people have not been shown in a particularly good light in the media.
  17. Well, this didn't get very far. Shame.

You are very welcome In case you see this before next time we speak properly, my mum has sent me a lot of useful information which I will pass on to you as soon as possible. We will get you through this!
  20. Whoa! A boy learned to echolocate? Seriously? That is incredible!
  21. Should they regret that some greedy psychopaths have capitalised on a dying child's wishes in the past though? It's still a good cause, regardless of what people have done in the past
  22. I'm no lady but I thought I would give you my input as I've noticed you on the dating site. I think no. 3 is a good one as Mihaela said, you do like quite angelic in it, and also no. 6 as you look rather thoughtful there. Good luck with your search for love!

I have got some good news for you Mihaela - I spoke to my mum and she is going to get together various bits of information that should be useful for you which I will send to you. Apparently pretty much everything the solicitor's firm has done is in some pretty major breaches of both law and legal guidelines. Apparently some of it is bad enough to potentially go to the high court if the firm refuses to budge - I know this may sound daunting (it certainly would for me) but apparently someone can represent you in court without you having to actually be there. My mum is willing to help you in any way she can as she hates solicitors. I will also fight for you in any way I can

If your mother instructed them by letter to make sure your bills were paid etc. and they haven't done this, I'm pretty sure they are breaking the law as that would count as a written contract. Hopefully you should be able to claim a large proportion of their charges back. I will ask my mum about it as she works for a solicitor's.
  25. When I was at primary school I was bullied by most of the teachers as well as the kids. This included the headmaster, too. Once he suspended me for 'spitting blood' after some kid punched me in the face and split my lip. The kid was not punished at all
