I like music! I like crafts! I like forklift trucks! I like trains! I am a songwriter and artist!

I work in a warehouse. It's noisy, has bright lights, and sometimes smells funny...so not great for someone with ASD! But I do my best to overcome my challenges. I drive the forklifts :)
  1. I painted my passageway skirting boards blue today :)

cool! im painting at the moment, the kitchen is going green and the hallway now has laminate flooring :-) yay us

  2. I did grown up things yesterday. I ordered a fridge-freezer and a man from the door company came round to measure up.

  3. Hi In 2007 my college identified me as having Irlen Syndrome/Scotopic Sensitivity by means of a computer-based assessment called a 'Quick Scan'. I'm applying for Irlen filter glasses through the Access to Work scheme. It was refreshing to find my AtW assessor had not only heard of it, but was pretty knowledgeable! Most people I've spoken to about it haven't heard of it, and that includes an Occupational Health Advisor and the nurses who conducted my initial autism assessment!
  4. Access to Work assessment was an extremely positive experience :)

  5. Got my Access to Work assessment tomorrow. I want it to happen but I just don't know what to expect :(

  6. Got my Access to Work assessment a week today!

  7. Hi there I understand what you mean about being fussy and wanting something that's just right for you and the stuff you like. I work in a warehouse and about a month ago I was securing a pallet with a roll of plastic wrap. The noise of the wrap unravelling was awful! I could see the Team Leader looking and he said "that hurts your ears doesn't it?" (they know I'm on the spectrum). He said that needed to be sorted out and I should wear ear defenders. For the rest of the night when a pallet needed wrapping he took over and made me stand at a safe distance for my ears I know the employer is responsible for providing me with PPE (personal protective equipment) but the ones they'll order will probably be really boring! I want some pink ones or ones with animal faces on! When I was Googling a few weeks ago I swear I saw some with bunny faces on but I can't find them now Maybe I will jazz up the ones my work get me with some glitter! I'm really into crafts Good luck with your search, and welcome to the forum (I think this is my first post too actually!) CatstyeCam

That's good news, CC. Good luck with the Irlen glasses grant. If only all employers were like yours.

Thank you :) Access To Work claim is moving along slowly but surely. My work is trying very hard but I think they are learning as they go so it's an eye-opener for them ;)
