  1. Blimey - I was just about to pop in and see what everyone here made of the programme last night, as well as comment on how I quite fancied Kirsty(!), only to find she's a fellow member here! (Not that I'm a regular any more, mind - like Viper, I haven't been for years [see my member number and join date to the left of my post!], but this show brought me back!) You were so adorable, Kirsty! Ah well - Alex has got ya now (in a manner of speaking) ... plus you know nothing about me ... and I'd be too old for you anyway. And Alex seems like a top bloke as well - I like his sense of humour. Plus he says he's always on-time, whereas I'm always late for everything. He's far better for you than I would ever be. You'd make a great couple, so go for it, I say! I loved the bit at the end, where you explained your emotions, coz I expect most people would've had no idea how happy and excited you'd been until then. By the way, always be careful posting anything you're personally involved in on YouTube. In my experience, it's THE least civil place on the entire Internet, and, as you've already seen, you'll attract unwanted negative attention. I know it's everyone's first stop when it comes to posting videos on-line, but it's also the place people most speak their mind, however unfair and cruel they're being, knowing they won't have to suffer any reprisals. (Oh, and no wonder people didn't realise this thread was here - you put it in the "Off Topic" sub-forum! This is far from being off-topic though! ) *waves at Viper, a fellow "old-skool" member* James
  2. Well I, for one, like the sound of more female Aspies. James
  3. I'm not a regular viewer, nor am I particularly "up" on all the various autistic spectrum disorders (apart from my own, of course), but it looks to me more like he's got cerebral palsy than autism. But it could be very realistic for all I know ... James
  4. Well, needless to say, I remember you! Nice to see you're gonna become a regular contributor here again - I might just pop in a bit more often if that's gonna be the case! All my news is in your Inbox. <'> James
  5. Oooh - glad to see a couple of people have taken advantage of this offer! Good to know I haven't wasted my time posting it here. (By the way, Kathryn ended up posting the events on the forum Calendar for me in the end, as it's such a pain in the proverbial for mere mortals to put anything on there! ) James
  6. I got another e-mail from the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge yesterday, advertising free tickets to the concert portion of their forthcoming event, "Autism: Art and Music", involving musicians on the autistic spectrum. So I thought I'd see if any of you that live in the London area (where the concert will be held) were interested. Just to give you an idea of how much money you'd be saving, the tickets would ordinarily be sold for between 15 and 50. The e-mail states a deadline for interested parties to e-mail THEM (at freetickets@arc-conference.com) of September 22nd (i.e. this coming Monday), however the front page of their web site would seem to suggest that that deadline's been extended by a week, to the following Monday, September 29th. Anyway, here's the e-mail ... I would advise anyone interested NOT to book on-line here, as it would appear you'd have to pay the full price via that route. I've also added the event to the (rarely-used! ) forum Calendar. Also, don't forget the art exhibition/sale portion of the event, which takes place the next day, Monday, October 6th, between 1pm and 5pm, at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, in The Mall, also in London. (A small entry fee is payable on the door.) More details of the whole event are available on this flyer (a PDF file), produced by the Autism Research Centre ... http://www.autismresearchcentre.com/arc/do...music_flyer.pdf James (Mods: Feel free to close [but not delete] this thread any time after September 29th, as free tickets probably won't be available after this date.)
  7. I received this e-mail earlier today from the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge. (I'm on their e-mailing list, as I've volunteered for some of their research projects in recent years.) Hope some of you find it useful, and feel free to forward it on yourselves if you can think of anyone who might like to know about it. James

    Goodbye

Blimey - I only popped in to leave a post in the "Resources" forum, and suddenly here's one of the few people I still recognise here, leaving! Well ... thanks for whatever you may have said to me in our earlier days here, when my presence was much more significant! Well done for providing everyone with such long and honorable service to this forum. You've done great! I'm certain you'll be missed. Take care, bid, and all the very best for the future. James

    oops

Okay - I can understand all that, but I have to correct you on your statement that "posts can be edited/deleted for a time" ... yes - they can be edited, but I can't find a way of deleting them! And no doubt Frangipani couldn't either, hence the existence of this thread in the first place! And that really ought to be possible, when it comes to your own posts, if only for a limited time, as you say. You mods may be able to, but as peasants can't!
  10. Well ... if you're looking at it that way, you'd have to say I've been in hibernation several times over the 4 years I've been a member here! Whenever I'm on-line, I have so many other things to catch up with, whether it's Facebook, the chat site I've used for years, e-mails, or various other sites, meaning some places get rather neglected. And as this forum seems to primarily consist of parents of those with ASDs (though not exclusively, by any means), and as it now has hundreds if not thousands of members that visit regularly, it's dropped down on my list of priorities. It was easier to keep up with when there were fewer members to keep track of, and I knew more of the people that were here. Discussions can get quite "deep" and "heavy" at times as well. So, in recent years, I've just popped in occasionally to get a general idea of what's been happening.

    One whole year

Pah - none of you have got anything on me! Look how long I've been around! Thing is I've only made 404 posts in that time, which is where you've all got me beat hands down. I'm very in-and-out when it comes to this place! I tend to go many months between visits.

    Areas You live

My location's in my little blurb just to the left there ...
  13. I'm way late to this thread (being only a sporadic user of this forum these days), but a search for "Somerset" brought me here. Doesn't look like I've missed much! Anyway, you can see where I am in my little blurb just to the left ... not that any of you are likely to know who the hell I am, mind. (I'm important though - I'm member #35! One of the old skool!! )
  14. Gordie

    oops

Wow - I'm amazed it's not possible to delete a post that you've written yourself. I would've thought that was pretty basic functionality for forum software to have!
  15. Good thinking - I was always daunted by the sheer size of the old "Introductions" thread, and never really knew when someone new had added to it. You would always have to remember where you'd got up to last time you looked at it, and that just put me off checking it, something that's not exactly welcoming if you're a newbie. Replies from existing members, while being welcoming, just confused matters for me, in amongst the newbie posts.
  16. Awww ... thanks, bid. You were darn quick off the mark with that post, weren't you?! Yeah, I had a pretty good birthday this year, thank you. And thanks to everyone else too. Not having such a great day today though, which is the real reason I've made a rare appearance here. Nothing I can actually talk about in public though, I'm afraid. I was just looking around to see what's been said here lately. James
  17. I don't have a problem with Pink ... ... I think she's quite good actually. (Sorry! The pedant strikes again! ) James
  18. Oooh - I'm good friends with a fantastic family that has a teenage girl who goes to Helen House! Thanks for the heads-up on this programme - I didn't know about it! Can't believe no-one in the family didn't mention it actually, especially as I was there for the weekend just last weekend! (So I'm assuming this means they won't be featured in it at all. ) James
  19. Don't worry - I'm not afraid to bring these things up. Spot the blunt Aspie, eh?! James
  20. Who says the correct name is "Asperger Syndrome"? I've always preferred to call it "Asperger's Syndrome" myself - it just looks better to me. I mean you never see anyone say "Alzheimer" or "Parkinson" or "Tourette", do you? It's always "Alzheimer's" and "Parkinson's" and "Tourette's". So why "Asperger"? If anything, you're introducing inconsistency here, not consistency. James
  21. Done!! Hope you like ... James

    In my area...

Well you can all see exactly where I am. James
  23. Just going waaaaaaaaaaay back to the techie aspect of this thread (without reading the rest of the thread), upon trying to enter only my birth year, leaving the rest blank, I get the error: "Either complete all the birthdate fields, or leave them all blank - we cannot process partial birthdates" ... which suggests it's an aspect of the software for all forums of this format, not just our forum. I'd say it's fixed like this by the people that made the software, and the admins/mods here can't do anything about it. James

    Is it my...

Two weeks on, and the forum seems slow at times for me too. Only "at times" though, and I've hardly been here at all this past month, so I've no idea if this is typical performance or not! James
  25. I'd go along with what MotherEve has already suggested ... The message you're seeing would only appear under those circumstances. So if you're seeing it with only one user account, then yeah - there is something weird going on. James
