    Greenwich Meetup

<'> <'> <'> This is what I was meaning...flashback to last year and memories tinged with worry and anxiety that our privacy will not be respected because of another's curiosity. I'm sure that we can relax, because SG and smiley can understand exactly how we feel about this and wouldn't be so unkind. Last year I had only been a member for a few months and was very distressed that I may have had to leave the forum if my picture was posted, and I was very grateful that my wishes were respected.

    Greenwich Meetup

I remember suggesting something along the same lines a few months ago. I thought it was a good idea for someone who wants contact, faces, voices and to be a part of something more tangible. I know this forum is special, but Sydney must have local groups with people and families that you could meet and get to know.

Thank you so much smiley. I can start breathing again!

Frangipani, please accept the fact that my answer, and some other people's is the same as last year's. I DO NOT want photos of me on the internet, or sent to people I do not know. Yet again, I've written hasty pms to people that might take you at your word and post stuff before a mod stops them. It makes a lovely event have a very stressful and worrying finale, like last year when I managed to upset someone by asking them not to post in a rather panicky message, and they got irritated at the thought that they might do it without my permission. I'm sorry that your plea cannot be answered by me, but I will always be of the same mind.

I think I just invited myself, I'm like that you know. If you had been packing a bard in your bag, you would have needed one of robust construction with wheels on the bottom. Or a luggage-elephant. Terrific marble cake Tally, with all the colours separate too.

    Tetanus Jabs

Oh oh I know the answer to this one! Llisa's right, of course. B had a jab pre-school, and because it lasts 10 years, he had to have another one at Easter. You know all the archaeological digs that he goes on? they won't let you dig without an up-to-date jab. And it lasts 10 years. Bramble scratches are very painful, but usually tetanus lurks in the soil and it's deep wounds that cause problems. Use a machete next time! <'>
  7. Nothing like that, I'm waiting for the new deluge of smellies for the teacher next week. We've got eco washing up stuff, so few bubbles. He's clean and grumpy and talking to the cat about how unfair life is and how negligent a parent I am. I'll get him some more tomorrow, but it's really just one of those 'Life is hard, get over it' moments. He began to suggest that I should go out into the night and look for some, then a basic survival instinct must have kicked in and he stopped in mid sentence and said "Oh all right then" I must not have been wearing my happy face.
  8. AAARRRGGG! We have no bl**dy bubble bath. So I have a yelling stomping roaring manchild of 13 1/2 wailing because he can't play with the bubbles in his bath and his lego together. And by God, he's loud!

    CAN ANYONE HELP?

Exactly my thoughts Flora. And anyone that thinks a child can't wreck a lesson isn't a teacher, at least in this country where the restrictions on appropriate responses are quite clear. I was once offered a rattan by a horrified Pakistani parent who didn't believe I wasn't allowed one. The teacher needs to learn how to differentiate between an ASD child struggling to cope and a naughty child, and the best way is for her to have a calm discussion with the parent to agree the best way to help the child manage and enjoy being in school. Rather than a rant. edited because I can't use this laptop very well and there were lots of capitals in the wrong place.
  10. My response sounded so calm and sensible, didn't it? I missed out the yelling, flailing pinwheel of fury. Then having to wrestle him to the ground whilst I removed money from his cash stash. The outwitting him as he tried to hide his money so I couldn't take any, and the roars of rage when it didn't work. It's long and hard and you need to keep saying your mantra, which I intend to print out and keep. <'> We will all be here and we will understand when you rant and feel that there is no progress...and we will be here to celebrate when he finally understands that the rule is inflexible and will always be applied. And when he gets all his stickers, we will have a forum cheer.
  11. When B went through a streaking phase to annoy his sister, he was 10/11 and had hit puberty early. So he'd strip and trot to the bathroom, and if he met her (carefully timed) he'd stop and have a jiggle because she would scream like a peacock, which amused him. So I hit him where it hurt...cold hard cash. He gets pocket money, so I fined him 50p an incident. No anger or yelling, more like a Two Ronnies sketch. He lost about a fiver before the incidents tailed off as he calculated that his fun was getting too expensive. Mum used the same tactic when we were children, you give pocket money so that you have something to take back! It is merely a suggestion that worked for us, but B does have something of the dragon about him and losing part of his potential hoard was painful. So he stopped.
  12. No. I haven't ever felt like you because I've never had to carry as much as you do and will in the future. And you're right, it isn't fair and it's not what you asked for. You are not being self-indulgent at all, you are overloaded and seeing the future, and it's tough. That's why I get annoyed with all the 'God gives his special angels to those who can cope' mantras. You cope, and go on doing so because you love your children, and because of that there are few other choices available to you. If you give up, what next? <'> I'd grab whatever help I could get, from whatever sources I could and then go hunting for whatever else was available. There will be others here that know how you feel, but all I can do is say you have my sympathy and admiration and feel free to rant and yell as much as you like because you are entitled to.
  13. I'm so sorry hev, when was he due back at the school?
  14. A license to cull, what wouldn't I give for one of those. OFSTED would hold no fears for me then!

That sounds a good idea, drink is heavy and you have a strapping lad with you. I'm catering for me, you, JP and Mumble. We can throw scraps to the starving multitude, or the squirrels. Whichever is cutest.

I am shocked at the idea that you would wish to squish or crumple such perfection. Unless you meant Jack Daniels, to which my budget will not stretch at the moment.
  17. It isn't, but it's also a matter of perception. It depends what daily experiences LIA and Mother Natasha have had that makes them defensive and irrational, as per the comment: " Legal immigrants with autistic child in UK" I wonder how many times they've had to cope with rejection and hostility because of who they are, and that it may have built into the need to make your case whatever others may have to say about it. It's not a basis for dialogue, nor is it worth getting cross about.
  18. I'm sorry that you felt my comment was discriminatory, but having worked in a first generation immigrant community for over eight years, I often found that some misconceptions stemmed from the speakers experiences in another system in a different country. I fail to understand how offering that as a possible explanation was inappropriate. Why did Mother Natasha think that the NAS was funded by the state?

Sounds like we may have to repel boarders ladies...and JP. Do you have any idea how hard it would be to transport ice cream from Sussex to Greenwich? But cheese... wensleydalemanchegosmokedcheddardoublegloucesterfetahaloumicreamcheese that I can do.
  20. Croissantsfrenchstickhummuscarrotstickscucumberfalafelcouscouscoldchickencold sausagescheesecoleslawcheesestrawschocolatebrowniesgrapesstrawberries any other suggestions? What do the other witches want to eat? And what sort of beverages?
  21. I think that Mother Natasha may not have English as her first language, so perhaps she is unfamiliar with this country's systems.
  22. I think this is the misconception that was being discussed.
  23. Of course you can move a child from one school to another without a statement, that's what parental choice is, and it happens all the time in my area. The NAS is an independent charity. And why did someone say they were? Probably because they are posting with passion, speaking from the heart. Rather than accurately.
  24. Shall I lower the tone? I'm re-reading, because that's what I do towards the end of term when I'm tired and can't take on board many new things. I've just finished my Tony Hillerman books, and now I'm on John Connolly. He writes books about a detective with a supernatural twist. Nuffink educashunal at all.
  25. Me too, and I'm wearing my Cropredy batik T shirt as I type!
