    Norfolk Broads
  1. Hi Baddad the only bread available on prescription that Ol will eat is the Juvela Harvest mix. It's very easy - just throw it in the breadmaker. Sometimes I add honey/sultanas etc. I've double checked with our dietician and it's def. g/f, c/f. He also gets biscuits (glutafin) on prescription, and pasta, crispbreads etc. GP was dubious at first but ol def. showed improvements and they have agreed to prescription for indefinite period. I buy all his dairy free stuff but as we get higher rate DLA I use that so it's not too bad. I think we r v. lucky though. Some G.P's etc. are not so helpful. I do quite a bit of baking (g/f c/f) but don't be put off, Kirstie if u don't like cooking. I just like cooking/baking but ol doesn't eat much of it. Me and my other son eat most of it! luv nel x
  2. Hi ol has tried the pikelets and pancakes and loved both. I've been gettin the fishfingers for him for ages now but they seem to have discontinued the chicken nuggets here (west wales). we get his bread etc on prescription but he prefers the ff pasta from tesco nelx

    Recommended book.

Hi nellie i read this book cover to cover after oliver got his diagnosis last november. I found it brilliant and agree that it's a very user friendly text for parents of a newly diagnosed child. I've read it again since and it's even better second time around once the initial panic has worn off a bit nel x
  4. Hi oliver is 3 and a half he's been on eye-q for about 4 mths now. To be honest i can't see a huge difference but i'm going to stick with it as he's also on gluten and casein free diet and this liquid (he likes the vanilla flavour) is of v good nutritional value so it all helps with makin sure he gets a good diet. Introductions!!

Hello to all. Haven't posted on here for a bit as very busy with kids etc. well, Oliver starts at assessment unit on 06/09/04 next Mon) so am hoping this will be a good thing. Has any-one else had an experience of sending their 3 yr old to school full-time? It is a unit catering for multiple S.E.N but they are v. experienced with ASD's and say they will keep him for 2 terms to do his statement and he can then go to autistic unit which is excellent place (have visited it already). It just seems such a big step, he still seems like a baby to me and he will be out of the house between 8.15 and 4.15. Also, has any-one ever tried Sensory integration with their children? Ol rocks and stims constantly. I don't know if I'm posting in the right place where people will read this post. I'm very very c**p with computers so will just hope for the best! By the way hi Caroline - thanks for your post - I just managed to find it and read it (I told you I was c**p!) I think we've chatted on Babyworld? Ol has also had diagnosis but back in November. You sent me a very kind message after i'd been to a really terrible birthday party with Ol! Anyway, take care lots of love x

    Introductions!!

Hi i'm new to this site and thought i'd introduce me and my family. I'm helen (user name is nel as helen is already used here and many famuily call me nel) Carol told me about this site and it looks really good - loads and loads of info. I'm married to andy and mum to william who's 4 and oliver who was 3 in april. Oliver had a diagnosis of autism in Nov 03 and i am still trying to get my head around it. My initial reaction of shock then grief culminated in endless reading and research. This has resulted in ol being on gf/cf diet which has def. helped his chronic diarrhoea and i think it's helped in other ways too. He communicates through pecs and has about 60 single words and lots of echolalia! He has many problems with sensory issues such as visual undersensitivity and he also rocks constantly. He is going to a unit for children with sen in sept 9 til 3 mon to fri which i am dreading as i will miss him in the day but also think we have to try it as his local playgroup didnt understand him at all. Still i suppose he will be back each day and will have each eve and weekends with him. After all that reading i've found myself absolutely shattered by the whole thing as i think i'm finally coming to terms with the diagnosis for real. However there are also loads of good days as oliver is friendly (to familiar adults!) and very loving to his immediate family. I'm also a primary teacher 2 days a week when my husband looks after kids as he's a shift worker. Anyway im rambling! Hope to hear from some of you soon helen
